the network configuration always reported error, so i installed
the system as a non-networked server.
after the installation, i tried to configure the interface by hand.
it worked, however, the information lost after a reboot.
i created files like hostname.le0, added entries in hosts files...
but it still didn't work... anyone hanve any ideas?
the system has three interfaces, le1 and le2 were configured, but

Unfortunately, an acpi problem caused prom_panic when loading the boot.bin.
SunSolve says it could be resolved by disable ACPI in bootenv.rc, but obviously
it doesn't work. checked the news groups on google, but seems no one had the
solution.
I wonder if anyone had had any luck. I would be very grateful if you
could share your knowledge with me.

然后重起了一把, 老样子, 就没理它. 今天发现calendar不认
我的ID, 而且居然连lock workstation都无法完成, 高手们认
为这是Solaris常有的毛病么? 还是确实出大毛病了?

2.5, 2.6 could only see at most 8 GB.
To make it work on your system
1. you could search and find a patch to solve it.
2. simply upgrade your system to version 7 or 8 |

设置EXCEED才行. 现在每次LOGIN得到的只是一个X WINDOW
的窗口.我想要的是 virtual desktop.

Since there are very few packages available at www.sunfreeware.com,
I have to donwload source and compile myself. However, there are so many
errors
Take gv or ghostview as example
xmkmf always think Sun cc is available, and give -Xc -XF options after
compiler, and the error message is "unrecognized option ...". googled it
and somebody mentioned that we need to change openwin X configs so that
the compile will pass thru, any Sun SysAdmin here?

说不能attach. add_drv后，在/dev下不能产生相应的结点
而且安装sun的例子（如pio）也不能attach。不知道时为什么。
另外：sparc平台solaris下，有无直接对设备端口操作的接口？类似于intel平台中的
outb

还有一个小问题: solaris还说自己的host name是unknown. 如果从PC ping
的话, 只能用IP ping通. 用unknown不行.
我试了在/etc/hosts 里把 unknown改成一个名字, 没用. 如果reboot的话,
它又自己改回unknown了. weird.

2.Edit the /etc/rcS.d/S30rootuser.sh script. Around line 150 there's an
if/then statement that sets the hostname to "unknown". Comment out the whole

I have 2 servers here. One is a Sun-Fire 280. It has dual 900MHz
UltraSPARC III. The other is a Dell PowerEdge 2650 with Intel Xeon P4 2.2G (1
CPU). Both have 1G memory and 2G swap. The Sun is running Solaris 8 and Dell
is running Linux 7.3. I want to find a benchmark tool to compare their
performance. Can anyone tell me which one has a better general performance?
