仅是Server的IP地址改变(Query和Master端口号不变，Server
Name也不变），对/usr/sybase/interfaces做了相应修改，以使Sybase的网络地址与所对
应的主机IP地址一致。但修改此文件后，我发现服务器端还是不能正确响应客户端程序提
出的请求，是否还有其他文件或者环境变量需要修改。另外，我在/usr/sybase目录下还
发现了诸如interfaces.001,interfaces.002等好多个文件，不知道是不是也要做同样修
改。并不了解sybase数据库，没把握怕改了造成数据库瘫痪.

every article I have read, the top 3 most used DB systems are still Oracle,
MS SQL server and mySQL.
I understand some large company will stay put with their existing systems,
but not sure if there any growth sector for Sybase. Will new companies pick
Sybase over the other 3? Are there any large companies out there planning
to covert their existing DB systems into Sybase?

司，不是ICC，全美可以排前三的consultant的公司(听别人说的）。我们的工作大概是
50%的SYBASE＋30%DB2＋20％MSSQL。 You'd better in OPT or have H1-B visa since
we need this position to be filled ASAP. 我们在新泽西。 主要是要有一点
sybase的基础,没有DB2的指示没关系.

I'm thinking of doing that but never done this before.
Seems there is something called oracle migration workbench can do that.
will this thing do the job smoothly?
How about the stored procedures and trigers in sybase, will they work in
oracle without modification?
And the applications such as loading script, is it a big pain to modify them
to point to oracle from sybase?

I'm writing a program to dynamically create tables in a Sybase database
through JDBC. Some of the fields of the tables are VARCHAR type. It seems that
the Sybase DBMS doesn't handle it correctly and keeps throwing exceptions. If
I remove those VARCHAR fields, the program executes correctly. Does any one
have any solution?

sacrifice performance and storage space. |

第一点没什么好讲的，任何 DB 都可以做。
第二点比较有意思，XML is a naturally nested structure, how do you flatten
it to tables? Each sub-struct with a table? How to determine primary key?
I suppose it couldn't be done "automatically". Table creation is VERY VERY
expensive in most RDMBS.
第三点不过使比较多的 join。
这里对 sybase 的 XML 支持的描写有多少水分我不知道，不过 RDMBS 最
大的缺陷就是 Relational，面象的就根本不是 XML 这样有 nested structure
的东西。 |

set the default encoding of Adaptive Server to be "UTF-8" and "enable
unicode conversion" to be 2. I think the encoding of the server should be
UTF-8. But is there any easy utility in ASE that I can use to input localized
table names/field names/values? I tried "Sybase Central", but failed.

1. secondary truncation point move only if submit to RS successfully (IBQ).
even if it has not commited?
or it should only move if apply to RDB successfully or OBQ succesfully (fully
commited)
2. when will primary truncation point move? After it commited in PDB? what
does " has finished processing." mean?
