overs alike.
from $100 to $500, yes, most was from no show down rivers, ppl were just
weak passive (and out of position too) to his all-ins. it might seem to be
fine when he pushed his last $60 into a $80 pot in the beginning, then he
got more teeth, and then even more teeth, next time he pushed $150 on river,
then $200 on river... ppl were pissed but still "patiently" waiting for the
"gold" hands to catch him.

走到阳台上，嗬嗬，蓝天里一道彩虹正准备去海里游泳呐！
LG对于昨天未完成的北部之游耿耿于怀，所以上午我们就沿着30号公路继续北上。这一路
上的景色着实让人惊叹，一个连着一个的惊喜使我们激动不已，拍照的速度也蹭蹭得跟上
。我们停了好几个地方，印象最深的是Dragon’s Teeth和Nakalele Blowhole。前者要徒
步走过高尔夫球场。当时有个championship要在附近举行，挺多的人在那儿练习。我们俩
边讨论如果被球击中算是谁的责任，边左躲右闪得向Dragon’s Teeth靠拢。比较搞笑的
是，我们刚在那儿拍了张照片，就有几个打高尔夫的人赶过来，做“到此一击”的pose。
找Blowhole可花了不小的周折。因为怕错过了最后的路口，我们在前面一个下了车。那一
带都是黑色的lava formation，翻山越岭走过灯塔，看见远处有几个人低着头张望着，那
儿可能就是了。等我们到了那里的时候，猛听得一声巨响，山脚下的blowhole 爆发了，

pictures on the bbs, since i look nothing like on these pictures in my
normal daily life. So no one can tell it is me.
Sometime, everyone has his/her own opinion, if i have a big smile and show my teeth you might tell me my teeth look ugly, and if i just smile a little on my picture, i got opinion of me having botox.

taking pictures, due to my uneven teeth.
At first i put too much makeup on and thinking it might be ok for a night
party, but it turns out too much makeup on those picture.

wearing braces for the third time in my life. I chose the white brackets,
they are not as noticable as the metal ones, but are $500 more. All togehter

作者很厉害，把10岁小男孩的心理和口气揣摩的惟妙惟肖。没有完整的情节，都是片断
，都是日子，逐渐营造出一种氛围。过程很轻松愉快，我不断回想起自己小时候的场景
，最后，看一个十岁小孩如何面对生活中超出他能力掌握范围的变故，理解和误解。
很好看的一本书，结尾挺伤感，却也无可奈何。
也许是我到现在读过的最简单的小说，从词汇难度上来讲。至少说明我的词汇量不比10
岁小孩差太多。口语就不能比了。
这书是1993年布克奖，够不够格得奖，至少我不够格评论。
这周开始读White Teeth，继续在英国、爱尔兰那边打转，作者Zadie Simth在2000年的
处女作，当时她只有25岁，目前读的20多页，显然语言功底比前几天的 The Tiger's
Wife 的 Tea Obreht （写作时也是25岁） 高一个级别。
忽然想到，韩寒、郭敬明们顶着小作家的光环成名，出道都很早，20岁前后，到了25岁
，别说White Teeth了，The Tiger‘s Wife 这个级别的作品有么？有哪几部？

从小长大的男孩不断奉献出苹果、树枝、树干直至生命最后的树桩的giving tree，在
我看来就像父母之爱。当用苹果卖钱发财失败、用树枝造房娶妻失败、用树干造船远行
失败的男孩伤痕累累地回到儿时的家园时，奄奄一息的老树唯一能提供的正是他唯一需
要的——一个容他坐下歇息的树桩。故事的展开使读者对老树同情渐增，对孩子责备渐
深，累积到此高潮时突然逆转——孩子在世上打拼也不容易，不断索取未必得到快乐，

译出上一本书以后，由于暂时没有适合翻译的新书，我开始给自己放假：每
天坐在厨房的录音机旁，边听磁带边看电子书。三天前，随便拿出一盘《美国乡
村音乐系列情歌》（The best of country & western Vol.2），A面的第一首是
节奏轻快的《神龙帕夫》（Puff, the Magic Dragon）。这首歌我不知听过多少
次了，却从没有注意过歌词的内容。于是，我拿起磁带的歌片，看了看它的歌词。
然后，我被歌词的内容迷住了——我不能完全看懂它的象征意味，这反而让它显
得更加迷人。我想，这绝不是普通的流行歌曲，一定在西方或者说美英文化生活
中留下过印记。为了求证这一点，我必须上网。
我打开电脑，连上网络，在百度百科中发现了一篇谈论《神龙帕夫》的文章：
“‘有歌评这样说：这首歌主要是谈小孩子长大的过程，及对环境的感受。
歌词中的Puff实为一虚构的奇异龙，用此来影射孩子小时侯很喜欢小玩具，长大

1. Try to say "rest", but when the tongue is in position to make the

What to say to a telemarketer! One of the things that has always bugged me (
and I'm sure it has most of you, too) is to sit down to dinner only to be
interrupted by a phone call from a telemarketer. I decided, on one such
occasion, to try to be as irritating to them as they were to me. The call
was from AT&T, and it went something like this:
Me: Hello
AT&T: Hello, this is AT&T....
Me: Is this AT&T?
AT&T: Yes, this is AT&T....
Me: This is AT&T?
AT&T: Yes. This is AT&T....
