least it is in principle well defined.
I wasn't implying that condensed matter theorists are picking up on ads/cft.
Once I complained to a condensed matter theorist that progress in string

Not necessary. But it is much harder.
If you got a visiting position like I did, it is still not too bad. I think
there are 3 Bs you could work on.
First, B open minded, so you will have more options (I was preparing to stay
in a teaching school);
Second, B useful to others, like your students and colleagues, so you will
enjoy your work and people will support you even if you finally leave the
place;
Third, B productive, that is the key for any one especially theorists,
because there are so few ...

BERKELEY – The most interesting moment at a recent conference held in
Bretton Woods, New Hampshire – site of the 1945 conference that created
today’s global economic architecture – came when Financial Times columnist
Martin Wolf quizzed former United States Treasury Secretary Larry Summers,
President Barack Obama’s ex-assistant for economic policy. "[Doesn’t] what
has happened in the past few years,” Wolf asked, “simply suggest that [
academic] economists did not understand what was going on?”

Anyone who claims this don't really understand physics.
Let me give you some examples. Mathematicians are often interested in very
general properties of theories, and global aspects (i.e. topology).
Physicists (by which I mean string theorists :) ) are more interested in the
dynamics. Many things physicists are interested in are uninteresting to
mathematicians. For instance, the cusp anomalous dimension of N=4 SYM, which
is extremely interesting to string theorists, would hardly draw any

2010, a startling rumor filtered through the number theory community and
reached Jared Weinstein. Apparently, some graduate student at the University
of Bonn in Germany had written a paper that redid “Harris-Taylor” — a
288-page book dedicated to a single impenetrable proof in number theory —
in only 37 pages. The 22-year-old student, Peter Scholze, had found a way to
sidestep one of the most complicated parts of...

Dude, I don't even know what 道理 you are trying to explain, but let me give
some serious answers to your questions for once.
1. The discovery channel shows are obviously for amateurs. We laugh at it
when Brian Greene tries to explain anomalies by drawing the analogy of 1 not
equal to 0. Here the students even made fun of him for it in the puppet
show. Where are we from? How was the universe born? No string theorists
ponder about such questions all day. String theorists are only interested in
