时差12小时），弗吉尼亚州的一处棒球赛场（该处与华盛顿特区隔河相望，一般报道称
为国会棒球场，央视转引CNN报道称其为YMCA基督教青年会棒球场）发生枪击事件。
早上，一些共和党议员来到棒球场进行练习，旋即遭到枪手埋伏袭击。据报道，枪手开
枪前曾问清楚：“这是民主党还是共和党的聚会？”美国共和党党鞭、党内三号人物斯
卡莱斯臀部中枪，倒地惨叫。另有至少两名议员助手、两名警卫受伤。
据报道，凶犯在棒球场手持M4步枪至少开了50余枪。所幸国会警卫队因为要保护共和党
内三号领袖，安保尚算严格，最终将凶徒击毙，否则按照在场参议员兰德·保罗（Rand
Paul）的话，如果被凶手为所欲为，将会造成很多人死亡。
据FOX电视台报道，枪手只有一人，是来自伊利诺伊州贝尔维尔的66岁白人男子詹姆斯
·霍奇金森（James T. Hodgkinson）。
