老师开的 485 课，本意是省省同学们的事儿，结果闹得有的同学堵心。不但有还没填表的同学感到
无从适从，已经交完表的同学也有忧心如焚的。今天，老师先给同学们宽宽心。
关于 485 的申请类型，有同学填了 [a]，也有同学准备填 [a]，在 140 还没批准的情况下。填
了就填了吧，想填 [a] 就填 [a]。实际上，140 还没批的 485 是不会有人来看的。等你的 485
开始处理了，你填的[a] 也就对了。
那边填了 [h] 的同学也别嚷嚷，你们填得没错。
同学们心里好受一点了？老师接下来谈谈改名字的风波。填了 None 的同学不要紧，填了 N/A 的
同学也没关系。这话儿怎么讲？且听老师慢慢道来。
在数据的录入界面上，每个 field 在接受之前，都会有个检错的过程。比如说名字，它就只接受字

发帖数: 265 | 5 大岛的主要景点是火山公园, Wipio valley, Mauna Kea，天文台，Kona, 和各色的沙
滩。只要有一部四轮驱动的车和娴熟的驾车技巧，根本不用take tour。这里的路线以
Hilo 机场为起始点和终点。要是飞到kona，只要把前后反一反就可以了。现在很多航
班可以从美国大陆直接到大岛，所以如果不去oahu, 不用飞honolulu。
第一日：
- Flight to Hilo
- Car rental：大岛上几乎所有wavy或steep的路租车公司禁止开。所以你租四轮驱动
的车就要犯规，不想犯规或车技不自信就要花钱参加没有什么自由度的旅游团
- 在Hilo机场找一家旅馆。大岛很大，如果你不打算住两个旅馆，就要准备花很多时间
commute （4 hours a day for example）
第二天
- Volcano national park:
穿上hiking 的装束，带上足够的水，headlight，午餐（国家公园里唯一吃饭的地方是
一个military camp，提供一些快餐，价钱还算公道），轻便雨披（hawaii的天气一日

Mount Rainier National Park介绍：
Mount Rainier位于Seattle东南部，是一座辐射状活火山，最高峰海拔4392米，绝对海
拔虽然不显高，但在周围几乎都是0海拔的地方是非常壮观的。夜晚在飞机上看到的
Mount Rainier很震撼，一座巨大的山峰破云而出，被冷冽的月光照得更显孤独，而周
围的城市和海湾都隐没在厚厚的云层下。公园一共5个developed景点，从西南逆时针依
次是：Longmire，Paradise，Ohanapecosh，Sunrise和Carbon and Mowich，其中最受
欢迎的是Paradise和Sunrise。下面分景点介绍几个trail。

西雅图，这次怎能少了大雾山这个大恶俗旅游目的地呢。Warning和前几篇一样：啰嗦
，慎入！
刚结束了为期三天半的大雾山萤火虫之旅，赶紧和大家分享一下攻略心得。
Great Smoky Mountains------大雾山，又叫大烟山，位于田纳西州和北卡州的交界处
，占地522419英亩，同时有大山，森林，瀑布，溪流，野生动植物的自然景观，印第安
原住民建筑的人文历史景观，以及山下小镇设施齐全的游乐场， 为口味迥异的游客提
供了丰富多样的选择。因此，不难理解大雾山是全美游客最多的国家公园，再加上鹤立
鸡群的地理位置（可怜的中部大农村人民只有名不见经传的Ohio的Cuyahoga Valley和
只有一个长洞的Kentucky的Mammoth Cave），和三季皆宜/异（冬天主要是山路会关）
的气候条件，成就了大雾山国家公园在美国的冠军地位。10月看红叶的时候是游客最多
的，其次是夏天，包括萤火虫季节，春天较少，主要是看野花和飙车的，所以要做好人

小区给了一个紫色tag可以免费停一辆车，另给了一个蓝色visitor parking的tag可以
让visitor停指定的个别visitor车位。我两台车，新车上放的紫色tag，昨晚没停小区
停在公司。旧车昨晚开回小区用的蓝色visitor parking 的tag，停在小区被拖。由于
昨天回家晚，而且从来没停过visitor parking的space一不小心停在了旁边不是
visitor parking的位置，车内挂的是蓝色tag，结果今天早上发现车被拖。我记得以前

望自己能写下来有个记忆，但是由于总是觉得文笔太差，加上懒，竟然无一写下来。后
来随着时光流逝，很多鲜活的记忆竟然也逐渐模糊起来了。所以这次还是逼自己无论如
何写点东西留给自己－－其实完全是流水帐，文笔实在太差。后来好几个朋友问到，如
果我们的旅程能对后来者有点借鉴作用，也算是第二个作用了。
第一天 (12月22日)出发
东部时间5点多的飞机,预定到LV是当地时间下午9:40,但是由于飞机晚点,加上租车公司
是FOX,要倒2次Shuttle才到,比较折腾,所以到了旅馆check in已经是西部时间12点多,
东部时间3点多了,非常困。下次要飞到LV 或CA还是尽量早点出发早点到达。
租FOX的车是因为他家比较便宜，之前又不知道他的地点这么偏。取车时咨询upgrade,
结果他有一辆4驱的吉普 (Wrangler)，想想要开山路，而且不知道是否有雪，还是加了
些钱从compact升级到4驱。8天税后才190刀，不过非常耗油。

发帖数: 41 | 18 6月1号到10号，包括路途时间，这次大峡谷和犹他国家公园行共十日，写下一些琐碎见
闻以作回忆，也希望对大家有所帮助。总的行程路线是：Grand canyon – Page –
Zion – Bryce – Canyonlands – Arches
1号晚上飞到Flagstaff机场。这个小机场是离大峡谷最近的了，只有80miles左右，大
概一个半小时左右就能开到了。晚上还开门的租车公司只有National 和Alamo两家。事
先在Priceline上定的National，主要是有10％的cashback，大概$25/天，另外还花了$
25买了AE的premium car rental protection以防万一。不过没想到到了机场，开始因
为是National会员给了不少折扣，后来又应我们的要求给upgrade了一下，最后竟然以$
20/天租到了Volvo S80。哈哈，旅途有了个好开端。
晚上就住在了Flagstaff，2号早上在旅馆吃了早餐，又在旁边的Wal-Mart买了水，防晒

今天有个visitor来给talk，因为他们的方法和我做一个项目相似，所以我导师让我一
起和visitor谈谈。
先说明一下我做的这个项目：这个项目是和系里另外一个组合作的。那个组的PI来找我们做计算的人，帮他做一个计算的程序，
看能不能找到更多的signal。目前的prototype已经做好了。
老板和这个visitor认识，说是她的朋友。几个月前我刚开始做这个项目的时候，老板
就向我和那个PI推荐这个visitor的一个software，当时那个PI没回信，后来我和PI开
会的时候问到，他说既然我们自己现在做的prototype已经出结果了，就先focus自己的
方法继续做。其实之前和那个visitor的software相似的方法我们也试过一个，结果不
好放弃了。

Before February 11, 2005, consular post officials could issue visas that
were valid for 1 year, at which time the visa holder reapplied. Since
February 11, 2005, students can receive Mantis clearances valid for the
length of the approved academic program up to 4 years and temporary workers,

看地图就知道，Everglade National Park与Big Cypress National Preserve挨的很进，两个visitor centers相距大概35 miles左右。早上在GPS的指引下去Shark Valley Visitor Center，$10/vehicle。一进门就看到路旁的草地上躺着一只alligator在欢迎游客了。建议在这个visitor center租个单车，这个地方trail只有一条路，据说来回20多miles，汽车开不进去，走路也太远了。公园两旁都是沼泽地，N多的alligators在此居住。Alligator心情好了，偶尔爬上岸，晒晒太阳，让游客观赏一下，呵呵。

7月1号下午6点从SF出发，路上在union city吃了个东北菜（人暴多，菜量狂多，价格
便宜，但是味道一般）。一路拖拖拉拉，开到Tracy住了个extended stay，60刀。
7月2号早上吃了早饭，大概9点左右出发开往Yosemite，高速奔了一个多小时以后就开
始local+山路了。特别是进Yosemite之前的那段山路，绕来绕去很是恶心。话说当时我
们前面有辆Nissan，山路十八弯从来不踩刹车，牛人（后证明并不是人家刹车灯坏了）
。中午12点多才到visitor center，咨询了一下，决定当天下午走lower Yosemite
fall，傍晚去Glacier Point看日落。lower Yosemite fall很弱，paved road，很适合
我这个孕妇走走。建议大家还是至少爬个medium难度的trail吧，好的风景都在险处。
Anyway,我们一路边走边玩，跟着老幼病残孕一起到了瀑布脚下，还下水玩了一会儿。
水冰凉冰凉的，都是冰川融水。

大概三四个星期前领导发现飞机票很便宜（三个人六百多），就订下春假去温哥华的计
划。然后我们就问了朋友同事那个地方有什么好玩的好吃的，从图书馆借了三本旅游书
（但是直到临走前三天才看）。我们是周三晚10点多到，周一一大早出发，所以这两天
都订在机场附近。因为不想搬行李，所以第二天也是同一家旅馆。我们打算去温哥华岛
又发现船票还挺贵，就决定索性多在岛上住一晚。然后订了租车，就很匆忙地出发了。
去的飞机是加航的，可以放电影。结果导致我们准备在飞机上看的旅游书都没看。在旅
馆临时抄了几个地址就睡觉了。
第一天本来打算晚起，结果小姑娘早早就醒了。我们临时找了家叫“王府井”的饭店，
打电话过去8:30开门，就去吃早茶。这家的早茶还好，尤其是特价的猪骨粥价格便宜份
量足，导致很多点心都打包了。接着我们就去著名的Canada Place。一路塞车，GPS给
我们指的是local小路（后来才知道这其实已经是大路了），很短的路走得很郁闷。到
了地方先去visitor center换了零钱路边停车，然后转了转，感觉啥都没有，也就是能

pm.
- buy the NPS annual pass
- Balanced Rock (30 min), take about 20 min to drive to there. If hv
time, hit view points/pull out along the way
- The Windows + double arch (1hr)
- eat diner and buy apple, sandwich at city market, fill up gas

Laurel Falls trail
Laurel falls trailhead位于园子西北，Fighting Creek Gap road上，
Sugarlands visitor center西边3.5迈，从北门开去Cades Cove会经过。Trailhead停
车场非常小，但是可以歪在路边停。trail单程1.3迈，非loop，paved小石头路，没有
台阶，轮椅和儿童推车不能上，有elevation但不高，建议预留2 h。瀑布高80 feet，
水量还可以。大俗必去。
景观：4.5/5
位置：5/5
Trail难易（5表示最难，难度分数based on从来不锻炼的懒人）：2/5
