对英字典。就是实际是两个字典。我们不懂西班牙语,你就不用那个功能键,我们就只
用英对英的电子字典。
其实你直接买英对英的电子字典就可以,大约40美元左右,很多的。
我的几乎免费么,买的那样的。误导你了。
amazon网上你搜electronic dictionary出来很多,大部分是英对英的电子字典,汉语
的很少。其他语言的也不太多。中国国内汉语的电子字典不太好(老的,现在的不知道
),它没有单独的功能键英对英的字典,汉语的他们也看不懂,所以国内这个电子字典
用处不大。 |

我不太相信 想想当年 TOTEL vocabulary 号称5000, 10000 lists
就算 book, books, kick, kicking, kicked 单独算
44000 / 3 = 14000
再算少些 10000 很吓人的数字

假蒙校 不用特殊教具 或者不用认证老师 只是自己说自己是蒙校的蒙校

级,连我都很惊讶,我还是HOMESCHOOL,孩子也从来不做任何阅读题,也不上语文课。
就看书,MANGA最多,我帮她借的,还有NOVELS,NON-FICTION,书看的多,自然
VOCABULARY,READING COMPREHENSION ,WRITING 就好,通过做习题是最不好的办法。
看书提高成绩比较慢,但是是真本事。一个看过10,000本书的孩子阅读能不好?10,
000本数字是不可想像,但是PICTURE BOOK, MANGA 可以几分钟一本,所以不是不可能
的事。 |

不好意思,我自己还没仔细看整个书单,只注意我娃的年级的了。刚才看了下,真的哎
,是有点问题:有些 chapter book 对学前的孩子来说是太难了。象下面的几本,
caddie Woodlawn, Door in the Wall, Rascal, understood Besty, Little Princess
, Tale of Despereaux, 好象是大娃三四五年级才读的。还有,C.S. Lewis 的Lion
the Witch and the Wardrobe 还有 Laura Ingalls 的草原小屋系列,如果是
unabridged version, 超过一般学前孩子的理解力了。书,倒都是好书。
But, as read- aloud books, if they can hold your child's interest, then go
for it. They do NOT need to understand all the vocabulary.

The main problem for English is vocabulary. She played with English speaking
neighbours
everyday. But she speaks very good Chinese at home and can read simple
Chinease books.
She can read Engish books fluently but she does not understand many words.
The way I did is borrowing books from library and let her begin to
understand what the word means |

math 和 ELA了。他都是自己完成。我只看懂数学, 觉得题目灵活,都是文字应用题很
有意思,孩子学了很多解题方法。
Beestar不是题海战术,每周每科都有20到题目。好处是容易坚持。如果你孩子想要在
某科目上做很多功课,可能要加量。
kumon可能只有数学和英文,费用很高,两科每月$240, Beestar一学期6科目才花了$
100多。
kumon挺适合更大的坐得住的自律的孩子,题目不难,重复做题的方式可以让孩子达到
完美熟能生巧。 |

我家小孩上的私立的K,也有校车接送,因为离得近,就自己送,可以送到班里,可以
见到老师。下午老师一直呆到5点,我接的早能见到主老师。有其他三个辅助老师,一
个晚上能见到,另外一个早上能见到。中间那个见不到,开会的时候见到过。我都有过
交谈,老师都比较nice,每个老师我都拉着问了一大通(原谅我这个新K娃妈,问题多
)。
1)每周有个weekly report。包括孩子这一周学了那个单词,那部分science,那部分
数学,孩子情绪如何,和小朋友相处如何等等
2)每天给带回家一本小书看
3)每天有一点点homework
4)每天把白天教过的,孩子做过的作业和art都带回来
5)老师可以通过电话,email和预约交谈的方式交流
6)每两周有图书馆trip,孩子能借一本书
7)孩子每周有一次音乐课,体育课
8)接孩子的时候可以参观教室,可以阅读孩子在学校完成的各种journal和作业和art
9)家长的任务,负责把需要家长作业完成
10)给发了几个月的学习计划。让家长带回家。
11)开学之初,孩子办理做了个测试,据老师说,是玩着做的,孩子根本不知道是测试

显然读闲书是否有害,也是老美所关心的。我比较同意下面的观点。
一,必须要娃自己选书。我不是有帮主十条吗?其中的一条就是“拍神”。给娃挑书杀
“拍神”。
Books kids read themselves are rated higher than ones adults choose 99% of
the time (anecdotal, but I've taught 300+ students that age!).
二,开卷有益。读啥都行。读八卦都行。因为越读,越会读。词汇量越大。见解越丰富
。需要钻研的时候,越会学习。(显然,老美也有阅读能力的问题。有人就是阅读速度
慢。谦虚的叫做dyslexia)

我遇到的问题,不说以前大娃了,就说现在一年级的小娃。老师做的 assessment,说
小娃 did poorly on phonics, but did very good on
spelling, and did superior on comprehension & critical thinking. Teacher's
concern is vocabulary / reading skill could limit her growth.
实际上 phonics 我说实话已经没啥可以课后加强的了。我唯一可以做的就是开始小娃
的图书馆阅读,并提供帮助。有家里大娃的经验,我基本认为小娃积累词汇的主要办法
就是阅读。其他办法多了都杀兴趣。
但通过阅读来积累词汇,效率并不高。所以唯一的办法是上小时数。这样一来啥钢琴之
类的奢侈教育,我们都顾不上。我们小学低年级就把阅读和算术计算题跟上就满意了。
这就是我为啥认为 Bloom's Taxonomy 的先后次序,没有任何 scientific 理论的价值

part 4 的确符合家长多年观察和从前老师的各种抱怨。其他分值高的部分,家长没明

working memory 的效率,是 largely rely on chunking / encoding 的;而
chunking / encoding 又 largely rely on schema,以及 perceptual memory 等等其
他的 implicit memory。
举了例子就是 super fast reader 不一定就是 working memory 的 the magic # 7 本
身多几个 plus 2,更有可能的是 superior on context-based predict / sight
words(比如阿汤哥的电影,第一秒就 predict 阿汤哥死不了,哪有导演让自己挂的不
是?),甚至可能 context-based predict / sight larger linguistic structure。
