刚ebay了一个free 3G的,没搞清楚那个whispernet到底收不收费?
因为没有wireless, @free.kindle.com不能用.
我原来用的KB3 wireless, 只能用free 的, 现在搞不懂了.

139元。请教一下，用Kindle看pdf书，直接把pdf文件拷进去就可以看呢，还是要用他
的Amazon's Whispernet service把pdf文件转换成kindle的文件类型才能看。
如果是后者，一个几百兆的pdf专业书岂不是不可能转换的了？
问题2，如果是word，txt或者pdf的中文小说，在Kindle上能直接看吗？还是要用
Amazon's Whispernet service转换一下？ |

本国人更多的网络自由。
能使亚马逊的这款电子阅读器成功越过中国防火墙的原因目前是因为它使用亚马逊
自主开发的网络系统Amazon Whispernet。这是一个通过美国电话电报公司AT&T的3G数
据网络为美国以及世界各地亚马逊“Kindle”用户提供无线数据服务的共享网络。亚马

order date. Must have nookitis. I chose the Kindle-DX mainly because of the
screen size, native PDF support, and I was accustomed to the Kindle user
interface with my Kindle 1st generation. Plus the KDX is already available
on the market. I really liked the K-1 but wanted more functionality and a
few of its nuisances addressed.
You might consider the KDX an anachronism with the iThing is on its way in

interesting, good to know. Digging into the spec, the "Kindle 3G" is not
what i described anymore, it is using the traditional GSM siblings than
CDMA, therefore should be technology compatible (assume it is multi bands
capable) with China mobile and Unicom's GSM. However It should have also
triggered international roaming and ATT subsidized the cost?
From some blogs, it seems the gap has been stopped on the great firewall :)
should be easy to stop it.

大约在零六年到零七年的时候，一种新的显示技术，eInk，开始进入电子书市场。一开
始，只是在Engadget等网站上看见Sony的Libre电子书。撩人的是，这个Sony Libre只
在日本市场销售，没有美国版本。后来，逐渐的，Sony的PRS-500系列开始了美国的销
售。eInk由于其独特的类似纸张的特性，被广泛宣传是下一代的电子书显示技术。但是
，刚出来的时候，Sony的PRS-500要三四百美元。那时候，一个功能强大很多的PDA也只
要两百多块钱，所以，可想而知，Sony的eInk电子书阅读器的销量并不是很好。
紧接着，基于同样eInk技术的Amazon的Kindle问世了。一开始，一个Kindle买到四百块
钱，当时我的想法是，这个eInk这么贵，而且只有单色，性价比远远不及LCD PDA。觉
得这个东东不行，挂是迟早的事。而且，当时可以选择的书籍很少，而在PDA上面有大
量的盗版图书供应，而Kindle显然处于劣势。

Kindle从原来四百元的价位，一直到最后的七十九元的低价，中间经过了大致四代。降
价的原因，一来是因为量产了，单位成本下降；二来是竞争：其间有Sony PRS，Barns
and Noble Nook，还有Borders的Kobo阅读器等。
到二〇一〇年的时候，我终于忍不住了，在Kindle 3 Wifi降到一百三十九元的时候，
终于进了一台。加上配套的皮套，最终一百八十几块。比较Kindle 3和Sony PRS-505，
有以下的优点：
首先，Kindle可以上网。两种方式：Wifi和Whispernet，就是亚马逊的3G版本。由于我
的使用方式和习惯，我觉得没有必要用3G，所以选择了廉价的Wifi型号。上网以后，就
可以方便的从亚马逊的Kindle书店买书。亚马逊尽量把购买的过程简化，这样有助于提
高销量，特别是鼓励用户的冲动购买。而且，上网以后，可以随时把阅读进度和在书上
所做的笔记同步到亚马逊的云上去。而且，也可随时把在书上做的笔记发到Facebook和
Twitter上去。比起Sony PRS-505来，这确实是一大进步。
