汗啊,那个leadville 100M 还没讲完,开始讲Zatopek了。such a character.

Emil Zatopek, winner of 5000m, 10000m, and the marathon in 1952 Olympics,
loves to jog while carrying his
wife on his back. The question is, are you tough enough for it?

there are no rules. do what your body can handle. Emil Zatopek did 50-100 x
400m repeats in training, and I
guess it worked out pretty well for him.

Gene and training.
Read the wiki about Zatopek. He is amazing. His wife won the gold medal in
the javelin in the 1952 Summer Olympics - only a few moments after Emil´
;s victory in the 5 km run.
Funny quote from wiki:
An example of the playful relationship between husband and wife came when
Emil attempted to take some credit for his wife's Olympic victory at her
press conference, claiming that it was his victory in the 5 km run that had
"inspired" her. Dana's indignant response was, "Really?

my thinking is for elites with more than 40k total mileage, running slow
probably won't produce any furthur benefit for them. but for ppl with less
than 10k or 20k total mileage like us, we still need to run slow (or run
easy) to build endurance. Mark Allen also trains at low HR, which doesn't
mean slow at all. his pace at 155bpm is 5:20/mi after years of buildup.

If I BQ any time soon, I will conduct a one man experiment on high rep intervals afterwards.:)
Right now I simply cannot imagine the pain one would go through in 90 reps of 400m repeats. If one can take
that kind of pain, one can take anything.

It is one thing to run a race, it is another thing with run a race with 100% effort. However, there are race maniacs who never get injured:
Emil Zatopek ran 69 races in 3 years, winning all of them.
Ann Trason ran 21 ultramarathons in 4 years, winning all but one (when she
ran with flu, and placed 2nd).
Michael Wardian ran 53 races in the year of 2008. He raced 5 marathons in 45
days, winning 4 of them.

Yflogan was only expressing his feeling on his current training. It is
proven by the experiences and results of
numerous coaches and professional athletes that a large base and high
mileage training is key to the success
in distance running. Even Zatopek, which made his name with high rep
interval training and winning 5K, 10K,
and the marathon in 1952 Olympics, had a HUGE base that enabled him to carry
out his brutal training regime.
