Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory
Odours, when sweet voilets sicken
Live within the sense they quicken
|
M*********m 发帖数: 2024 | 7 Agree. I am wondering if fondlelotus and sarabande could talk about the
possible 格和律 of modern Chinese poetry a bit... :) So, what is the
difference between a prose and a poem besides poems can be broken into many
lines... |
|
|
a***d 发帖数: 2374 | 9 Could you tell more about "庄严体"? What do you think on Sonnet? |
|
|
|
M*********m 发帖数: 2024 | 13 I remembered reading some articles like fondlelotus said. Western poetries
are regulated by not ruled by the syllables and Chinese poetry should be
translated directly as "Shi". hehe. |
|
|
l*r 发帖数: 79569 | 18 i c

Desert Places
by: Robert Frost
Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast
In a field I looked into going past,
And the ground almost covered smooth in snow,
But a few weeds and stubble showing last.
The woods around it have it--it is theirs.
All animals are smothered in their lairs.
I am too absent-spirited to count;
The loneliness includes me unawares.
And lonely as it is that loneliness
Will be more lonely ere it will be less--
A blanker whiteness of benighted snow
With no expression, no |

Over the Roofs
I said, “I have shut my heart
As one shuts an open door,
That Love may starve therein
And trouble me no more.”
But over the roofs there came
The wet new wind of May,
And a tune blew up from the curb
Where the street-pianos play.
My room was white with the sun
And Love cried out in me,
“I am strong, I will break your heart
Unless you set me free.”

Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And Summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And oft' is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd:
But thy eternal Summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wanderest in his shade,

From Sonnets from the Portuguese
-21-
Say over again, and yet once over again,
That thou dost love me. Though the word repeated
Should seem "a cuckoo song", as thou dost treat it,
Remember, never to the hill or plain,
Valley and wood, without her cuckoo strain
Comes the fresh Spring in all her green completed.
Beloved, I, amid the darkness greeted,
By a doubtful spirit voice, in that doubt's pain
Cry, "Speak once more - thou lovest!" Who can fear
Too many stars, though |

Sheep In Fog
The hills step off into whiteness.
People or stars
Regard me sadly, I disappoint them.
The train leaves a line of breath.
O slow
Horse the colour of rust,
Hooves, dolorous bells ----
All morning the
Morning has been blackening,
A flower left out.
My bones hold a stillness, the far
Fields melt my heart.
They threaten
To let me through to a heaven
Starless and fatherless, a dark water.

IT'S HARD FOR SOME MEN TO FINISH SENTENCES
Sometimes a man can't say
What he . . . A wind comes
And his doors don't rattle. Rain
Comes and his hair is dry.
There's a lot to keep inside
And a lot to . . . Sometimes shame
Means we. . . Children are cruel,
He's six and his hands. . .
Even Hamlet kept passing
The king praying
And the king said,
"There was something. . . ."
