A while ago I got a PWC offer. Please see the thread below.

I am still wondering if I need to accept the offer as my concern is as
follows:
1. I only have 1 year audit experience at a national firm and most of my
clients are manufacturing clients. I just audited 2 private equity firms,
which are all small firms. Since I am recruited as experienced hire as Staff
II associate, I am worried that I can't keep myself up to speed and will be
laid off after working on several projects.
2. If in future I switch back the job to industry, the ideal industry I want
to work at is Insurance or Pharmaceutical as there are only companies of
these two types around where I live. Is that possible that I do hedge fund/
VC audit and find a job in the industries aforementioned?

发帖数: 1311 | 2 1. Everybody's audit is kinda similar. As a second year associate within the
fund industry, I would expect you to know
1. Equity - P&L allocation among GP & LP..everybody does it a little
differently but however it is you have to make sure the client does their
allocation right in accordance to the LPA. If the fund is
in a net gain position, you do carry (20% GP, 80&LP). Net loss - you
allocate based on commitment %...sometimes they do it on a investment by
investment basis...too Easy right?
2. Help guide the 1st year - answer question related to stuff that the 1st
year is testing...so that's cash, accrued, management fee....
3. Valuation - just private company valuation...DCF, comp, LBO whatever.
Since you are working at a national firm, and they haven't laid you off. I"m
assuming you should be smart enough to figure things out. Everybody is
short of people right now, so as long as they have a body to work, they won'
t layoff people unless you are really bad. Really bad = dont' know how to
use excel and don't know debit/credit.
2. Once you have PWC on your resume, they assume you are smart, works hard,
don't mind the hour, etc....everybody loves to hire people from big4..the
industry thing definitely gives you an edge over other people but industry
people typical believe that if you are from PWC, you are smart enough to
pick it up fast even if you don't know everything...you can switch industry
after 1 year or so...
I did VC in my 1st and 2nd year, and I'm senioring a giant hospital system
audit now in my 3rd year. the accounting experience definitely translate. | p******a
发帖数: 285 | 3 i've highly recommend u go for pwc simply because it builds ur resume; if u
work there for 2, 3 years then u can stay in pwc if u want, or u can
jumpship to industry, it's ur choice.
but if u work at this industry company, what's ur choice after a few years?
about lay-off, big 4 accounting firms are in a hiring fiesta now; so unless
u behave terribly bad, i dont think u should worry for 2-3 years. | C*G

请问，是什么原因？ 是经济危机的时候lay off 或者quit 的人太多了。 现在economy
好转，需要多的人了吗？
这个情况是哪个firm 哪个office 啊。多谢啊。

看你年龄和个性了，如果你是事业型的人，而且身体非常健康，建议还是去PwC混混经
历。如果你年龄25+，建议还是深思一下。从一个过来人的角度来说，健康真的很重要
，在里面真的是很伤身体的。我很后悔。 | p*****i
