the hiring supervisor do the interview. The majority of the interviews has a
panel of 3-5 people, asking 5-7 questions. You cannot ask for explanations
of these questions. You can only ask them to repeat the questions. Most of
the time you have to complete the interview in 30 or 45 minutes.
You have to pay particular attentions on the questions asked. Some questions
are very long and wording. If you are not quite sure of the question, you
can always ask to repeat the question so you can better understand it well.
All the candidates have the same questions. I suggest you use STAR interview
methods.
Situation – Have a situation that you would explain, always related to the
question. How challenging it is.
Task – What would you do for this situation.
Actions – Actions you have taken to solve the problem. Very critical part.
Results – Saved time? Better quality? Reduced cost? or Better performance? –
At the end, you may say something like “I am proud that I did XXXX and made
contributions to my department’s cost savings.” Or “My manager was very
happy about what I did and I was given $1000 reward.” or "Because of my
work, our project completed one month of schedule.” Etc. Don’t make it too
long and rumbling.
After you answered each question, let the interviewers know you've answered
the question – “This completes my answer to your question.”
Prepare all the answers on a piece of paper. The most asked questions are:
1. Prioritize your tasks.
2. Teamwork
3. Problem solving
4. Resolve conflict.
5. Mistake by a coworker
6. Customer focus
7. Mistake you have made – Don’t list crucial failure. Some mistake you
have made and learned a lot from the mistakes.
8. Your great weakness – not often asked but sometimes it does. Almost
everyone hates this question. But you have to answer. Don’t expect to score
too much for this question, make sure not lose.
1) Organized work, set priorities, and determined resource requirements
This is an easy question. List your major tasks and why you prioritize them
as high, medium, and low tasks. And Resources you need to complete the tasks
. How you perform your tasks – You may share resources from different tasks
, You may find better way to do some more creatively and more efficiently.
You may delegate some tasks to other people. You have to convince the
interviewers that you are an effective performer to manage multitasks. –
Remember timing. You have only 4-5 minutes to answer one question
2) Used logical methods for organizing and analyzing information
It is more technical. Should be easy to answer it. ORGANIZING –
emphasize this word. ANALYZING – what tools you use to analyze the
information – always link to the job you have applied in this case Auditing.
3) Made informed, timely, and effective decisions
Decision making process. What if the information is not perfect? – you
may use previous data, you may use projection, you may use your experience.
Or under deadline pressure. What would you do? Should be easy for this
question.
4) Communicated information clearly and effectively
How to clearly and effectively. Precisely what information, what exactly
you need and specific. For example, provide data in Excel spreadsheet If
you do not specify Spreadsheet, They may provide PFD formation) with
deadline and to which people. Look at how to effectively conduct a meeting.
5) Interpreted and applied governmental accounting and auditing
standards, principles, and practices
Search the internet and government procedures for government accounting
and auditing.
Sorry, I have no much time in detailing. Just roughly wrote some stuff for
you. Hope it helps.
Remember, PREPARE and PRACTICE. Goo luck for your interview.
