Job Description
Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions
Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require
actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of
action
Assures preparation and interpretation of data in support of rate filings
with various state insurance departments
Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis
of statistical data
Assists in design of insurance plans, calculation of premiums, determining
cash reserves and premium rates necessary to ensure sufficient funds for
benefits payment and profitability
Functional Responsibilities:
Prepares, performs, and analyzes actuarial research and audits; develops,
calculates, and checks policy values
Develops, extends, and maintains profit studies, forfeiture values, reserve
programs, rate files, and procedures
Calculates profit studies, net premiums, reserves and non-forfeiture values;
assists in preparing actuarial portion of financial reports and tax returns
. Performs other related duties as assigned or required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May provide guidance to other actuarial staff
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science or any
other technically or relevant degree
8+ yrs. relevant experience in the actuarial field.
Key Competencies Preferred:
Knowledge of Group Life underwriting and Pricing
Understanding of Group Term Life and AD&D
Strong Excel and VBA skills
Programing languages, C++, C, Java
SQL skills, for data mining and analyzing data
Maintaining pricing standards
Actuarial knowledge and some exams towards ASA designation
Working knowledge of accounting concepts
