over (several months left). Can he bring the phone (i-phone) back to use in
China? AT&T says he has to pay early termination fee to unlock in order to
use the device (in China). Is this accurate?
He had registered his i-phone with an Apple ID but the account information
including password is lost. Does this affect the ability to unlock the i-
phone? i.e., can we create another Apple ID to associate with the existing
phone to complete the unlock process (after paying ETF to AT&T)?

He can't use the iPhone anywhere if he lost the apple id password.
Contract Apple for password recovery.
If Apple cannot reset the password, get a new iPhone, or ask the FBI for
help.

Resetting the password without losing the data is the biggest challenge.
