new Civic compact. The everyday, run-of-the-mill Civic won't get 40 miles
per gallon on the highway. Rival Hyundai Elantra gets it. The new Ford Focus
will get it when it goes on sale. So Honda engineers found a quick solution
, the same one that came to General Motors: a special edition.
They created a new special high-gas mileage edition of the Civic, the HF. It
will get 41 mpg on the highway. The standard Civic will be rated at 39 mpg
even though it gets three mpg more than the model it replaces.
GM took the same road. When it became apparent that the Chevrolt Cruze
wouldn't get 40 mpg highway, along comes the Cruze Eco, which achieves 42
mpg on the highway.
Civic comes with a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine. The Civic Hybrid, outfitted for
the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC
engine, will get 45 mpg, an improvement of 4 mpg compared to the current
version. Honda is talking like its happy with the result:
"The Civic is the only model in the industry that can deliver on all fronts
– fuel economy, sporty performance, smart packaging, alternative fuel and
long-term value," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for
American Honda. "For the ninth-generation Civic, we are emphasizing improved
fuel economy across the board, from the hybrid sedan to the sporty Si model
."
The Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic GX Natural Gas models are also
estimated to achieve improved fuel economy compared to the current models.
When it comes to performance, where fuel mileage isn't as big a factor,
Honda plans to give the Civic Si sedan and coupe a larger, more powerful 2.4
-liter engine and a new six-speed manual transmission.
The new engine is anticipated to deliver 200 horsepower and it will have a
22% increase in torque. Civic Si is targeted to achieve an EPA-estimated
highway fuel economy1 of 31 mpg; an increase of 2 mpg when compared to the
current model. | c*******e 发帖数: 8624 | 2 so freaking cheap and ugly
