对于理科生来说这篇文章讲的是加速感觉符合torque曲线的变化而不是马力曲线的变化。
Any given car, in any given gear, will accelerate at a rate that
*exactly* matches its torque curve
300 foot pounds of torque will accelerate you just as hard at 2000
rpm as it would … at 4000 rpm in the same gear, yet … the horsepower
would be *double* at 4000 rpm
不过文科生可能会把这篇文章理解为A车的引擎torque比B车大一倍,加速度就会比B车
快一倍。文科生不知道引擎torque不直接驱动车加速,而是要通过变速箱按比例缩小,
这个比例会完全改变结果。
这篇文章的价值在于跟NA相比,torque平坦的turbo车加速很猛,无论是汽油还是柴油
turbo。

实在不想再说”drive one, you'll learn“了,刚才开柴油F250的兄弟都引用了。我
想以一个很主观的例子说明吧:
1. 这段路(http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.867964,-73.544712&num=1&t=m&z=15)是坡度比较大的连续上坡,我经常开因为weekend home在那里。开A6 3.2和535i都需要降档,降速再提高转速,非常不流畅;而柴油车入坡出坡一个档位,转速从1200rpm提高到2500rpm,入坡的时候可以做到提着速爬坡不降档,整个完成这段路的时间比汽油车要短,驾驶的感受是汽油车无法比的。有个开8缸Jag的朋友开我的车走这段路感受和我是一样的。所谓"drive one, you'll learn”
2. 在城市里走走停停,流畅感和动力传递及时性,从驾驶者的角度来讲,柴油车完胜
汽油车,去问问任何一个在Sprinter的和开8缸汽油GMC的那些司机就知道了。华人经营
的小巴士没有人用汽油,司机说汽油车没劲儿在市里一走一停没法儿开。

你这段quote得不完整,有点misleading
原文是这样的:
Any given car, in any given gear, will accelerate at a rate that *exactly*
matches its torque curve (allowing for increased air and rolling resistance
as speeds climb). Another way of saying this is that a car will accelerate
hardest at its torque peak in any given gear, and will not accelerate as
hard below that peak, or above it. Torque is the only thing that a driver
feels, and horsepower is just sort of an esoteric measurement in that
context. 300 foot pounds of torque will accelerate you just as hard at 2000
rpm as it would if you were making that torque at 4000 rpm in the same gear,
yet, per the formula, the horsepower would be *double* at 4000 rpm.
