Omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3 FAs), DHA and EPA, exert anti-inflammatory
effects, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we show that the
G protein-coupled receptor 120 (GPR120) functions as an ω-3 FA
receptor/sensor. Stimulation of GPR120 with ω-3 FAs or a chemical agonist

For this paper itself, it is very important and novel. But it cannot be
generalized to "whenever the targets/mechanisms of a natural product is
discovered, it's a top paper".
It is true that some natural product target, like the most famous TOR (
target of rapamycin), is huge. However, tons of papers with the discovery of
novel natural-product target has been published without better recognition.
For example, Craig Crews, who has been doing that for his who | b******d 发帖数: 149 | 6
discovery of
recognition.
has
There have been two school of people studying this. Crews focuses more on
chemistry. In order to get more recognitions, one needs to do more
biology to convince biomedical community. nothing against him, just my
2cents.

I meant "academic recognitions" not "target recognitions"~~ I like Crews
work a lot, and I think he deserves more credit. "credit" should have been the word to use (BS my english..||).
I guess Schreiber will disagree and say that "more targets could be
regulated by one natural product". But compared with synthetic molecules, I
always put my bet on natural products.

Recognitions are related, "target recognitions" will translate to
"academic recognitions"..hehe...
Indeed, "more targets could be regulated by one natural product".
Schreiber is very smart to attract top biologists (half of his lab) back
in the days.
Similar to what Deng said about cats, no matter what kind of molecule
is, synthetic or natural, it's a good one if it has cool biological
functions, even better if it could become a drug
