This individual will computationally analyze diverse data sets from high-
throughput assays, such as micorarrays, RNAi screens, mass spectrometry/
proteomics, high-content imaging, and SNP genotyping. He/she will work
closely with experimentalists to answer biological questions of interest by
performing quality control of the experimentally generated data, relevant
statistical analyses of the processed data, and bioinformatics analyses to
refine or interpret the resulting discoveries in the context of independent
knowledge from literature or other public databases. To facilitate efficient
data retrieval and data mining at the Laboratory of Systems Biology (LSB),
this individual will build databases and software infrastructure to load,
store and organize the diverse data sets, associated metadata, and analysis
results from the high-throughput assays. The position also involves working
with computational biologists to conduct cutting-edge bioinformatics and
systems biology research, such as developing novel statistical methods for
the analysis and integration of high-dimensional data sets to gain
biological insight. In collaboration with software engineers and scientific
programmers, this individual is expected to deploy some of the existing or
novel analysis methods (e.g., tools for simulation of signaling networks) as
broadly available tools.
Requirements: Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems
biology, or relevant disciplines; 3+ years of hands-on research experience
with the analysis of high-throughput data sets; sound knowledge of
statistics and quantitative modeling; solid computer programming skills with
proficiency in Matlab/R, SQL, and in at least one scripting language (Perl/
Python/Ruby); proficiency in C/C++, Java, multiple OS platforms (Windows,
MAC, Linux), web programming, or parallel programming (e.g. MPI) are
