I was interested in continuing a project that is done by a previous lab
member from a collorating lab. And both my PI and the colloroting PI
support me on this. And I had notebooks from the collaborating PI for that
project.
I am shocked to find that the previous lab member just made up data to have
the work published. It is impossible for me to continue from where he
stoped. This guy is a faculty now in another university.
My advisor suggested me starting the project from the beginning and
supporting me by saying: this makes the project more valulable. XX
university made the miskate and XX university should correct it.
That guy published 4 papers, I am afraid all of the data were just made up.
If later that were found out to be true, I am afraid the colloraboring PI
will be in trouble.
Maybe in this case, I should just step away from that project.
Any good suggestions here?
