Thank you very much for making the effort to apply to one of our ongoing
faculty searches in the University of XXXXXX Department of Biology. In this
most recent cycle, we reviewed over 650 applications in response to a single
advertisement, out of which only 36 applicants were initially retained for
further consideration. In choosing these, we took into account not only
obvious things, such as publication and funding histories, but also the
degree to which a candidate’s work might impact a very broad swathe of
research interests within our department.
I am sorry to say that your application was not one of those retained for
consideration. I should note that with such a large applicant pool, a
substantial majority of candidates was nevertheless of very high quality,
and a large fraction would have been competitive for interviews within more
specialized search areas.
All of us in basic research are keenly aware of the ongoing weakness in the
academic science job market, and these were thus very difficult decisions to
make. I'm sorry that we are unable to pursue your candidacy further, and
wish you all the best in your search for a faculty position.

毕业了做了posdoc 上千人争一个职位也不是不可能
