这些搞化学的生的都是女孩阿，而且都这么晚才生。。。
快退休了被lay off，小孩还远远没到上大学，天，真悲剧。。。
还有个50岁的麦克，单身住朋友家。。。
尼玛如果一直单身的话，过去20年攒下的钱早够提前退休了，
还找个P工作啊。。。
这段我怎么也不相信阿。。。

and not in the "higher" management by age of 50. You are too expensive to
keep around. Especially, we have chemists here believe practical uses are
not important. |

发帖数: 2399 | 8 其实也就是少了一些吃大肉的药厂工作。不过做有机的试验技能很强，很多去了
chemical或者oil industry。。我以前公司好几个药厂来的，抱怨的是只拿9万多不如
他们药厂entry。不过奇怪的是光伏行业也layoff严重，也受海外影响大，似乎抱怨看
的少多了。。

working on the bench and not in the upper management, is not your fault?
Same thing in academic, if you don't have an R01 4-5 year into your career,
are you going to blame the system? If you are a post-doc or a graduate
student
messing around for years without a paper, I guess you are going to blame
your PIs?
I can give you a classic example: You can get fired for getting fat (
absolutely legal), but you can not be fired due to age, race, etc. Why?
One you can control, and the another one you cannot. Work harder! Btw, one
of my peer is complaining how hard to get the NIH funding. Guess what he
is not going to get it by only working 9 to 5 during the week day, and don't
show up during
weekend for a new PI.

scientific writing. Of course, the only drawback is that you have to finish
the grant a few week early. There is also an additional bonus because it
is almost impossible to tell who I'm when I'm posting online.
Wonder, I'm in a Medical School, not a traditional chemistry department.

我原来同事印度大姐，的姑妈（或者是姨），一位印度老太太，50多被layoff之后，找
不到full time的工作，只好一直做低薪的contractor。
然后该印度大姐自己家，老公是做IT的，家里两处房产，总值超过100w（大姐的工资，
比postdoc只低不高。而且大姐出来工作，是为了躲跟他们一起住的婆婆，人家里根本
不缺这点钱）。他们俩都是40不到。
如果担心未来没有预期的那么光明 （edit：千万不要wishful thinking），就早做打
算，总好过天天提心吊胆、然后等真出事了才傻眼的。
