Dear friend of the Chicago Area Co Clubs,
I received this email from Joel Beverly, and am posting it here for those
who may be interested...
My name is Joel Beverley and I’ve recently started a Go Club at Wauconda
Area Library. I am a part-time staff member in adult services there, so this
is a library-sponsored club: not private. You can find the scheduled Go
Club meetings on the library’s website: www.wauclib.org We typically meet
once a month on a Saturday from 10am-noon. Drop-ins are welcome, even if
they hold a library card in another district. So far as I know, there are
not any other public libraries in the Northern Chicago Suburbs that have a
Go Club.
The Wauconda Library Go Club is advertised for “All ages and skill levels”
. Though I’m new to the game myself (Only took it up when I was approved to
start this program about 8 months ago), I do provide one-on-one instruction
(to the best of my ability), and free copies of The Way To Go instruction
books to all who attend. Attendees of my club range from grade-school age
children to adults ranging from their 30’s to 60’s. I have a few
experienced Go players who show up from time to time, and they have taught
me a lot about the finer points of strategy through ‘teaching games’.
We have several Go Boards and plastic stones provided by the American Go
Foundation, but feel free to bring your own set if you prefer.
Our remaining scheduled Go Club meetings are on Feb 15th, and March 15th
from 10am to 12 noon. More spring dates will be announced later. |
