j*s 发帖数: 46 | 1 Thinking about changing to a compact crankset, and I have some questions.
Thanks in advance for your help.
1. What is the difference between Ultegra and FC-R700 which is supposed to
be Ultegra comparable?
2. Most of Ultegra are for 10 speeds. Mine is only 9, would this cause any
issues?
3. Can I keep the existing FD? Maybe it needs to be lowered?
4. Can I keep the existing chain? Does it need to be shortened?
5. Other things I need to be aware of?
Btw, everything is Ultegra except for the Dura-A |
w******x 发帖数: 4396 | 2 1) r700 is slightly cheaper and uses regular large ring with through holes.
2) no
3) yes. yes
4) yes. probably not.

w******x 发帖数: 4396 | 4 will work. chainrings are not very different between 9 and 10.

V*****n 发帖数: 893 | 5 the chain will rub the big ring when it's in the small ring. the 9spd chain
is wider and the 10spd rings are closer to each other. I have use a sram
9spd chain with a ritchey compact (designed to be 9-10spd compatable), only
the 5 larger cogs are usable. the shimano 9spd chains are quite a bit
narrower but so does the r700. so I think the advantage of compact crank is
minimized.

w******x 发帖数: 4396 | 6 no. ring spacing is the same 5mm throughout the range and is a standard.
that's not even up for debate.
the fact that your chain rubbed large ring indicates that your chainline is
likely wrong. sram chains being slightly wider than their shimano
counterparts didn't help you either.
chain
only
is

the ritchey chainset uses shimano spline BB. should be no problem with the
chainline

that doesn't support what you are saying one way or the other.
on one hand, your chainring is roughly 3mm in thickness. think about how
much offcenter the teeth can be. on the other, the chain sits on top of the
entire chainring, not just the teeth. the position of the teeth is only to
facilitate shifting. it has nothing to do with the position of your chain.
hehe, you simply haven't run into problems like these enough. ritchey cranks
consistently have the lowest q factors among similar cranks.

V*****n 发帖数: 893 | 9 well, sounds good. if it does work, it gives me more options for my bike
setup as well as I have r700 and a 9spd groupo. |
