Planning on an international traveling on H1B visa. If become current during
the trip, does it mean I have to come back in order to submit I-485?

while 485 is pending, you are fine to travel outside of the US with a valid
visa (not expired). If visa is needed, you need to apply AP in order to do
international traveling.
