With the case in front of a new judge, Microsoft and the government settled,
with the government dropping the case in return for Microsoft agreeing to
cease many of the practices the government challenged.[13] In his defense,
CEO Bill Gates argued that Microsoft always worked on behalf of the consumer
and that splitting the company would diminish efficiency and slow the pace
