Hope this email finds you in best of health and cheers. My name is XXX and I
graduated from Dr. XXX’s lab at University of XXX in 2009. Currently I am
a postdoctoral research associate at XXX’s lab at XXX University.
I am writing you this letter because I would like to ask you for your
support of my Green Card application by writing a reference letter on my
behalf, which I could send to the US immigration office. The evaluation of
my scientific contributions by an internationally recognized and outstanding
scientist like you is one of the major criteria for the US immigration
office to decide about my case. Since the reference letter for Green Card
application, which is the judgment of my research instead of my person, is
different from other recommendation letters (e.g. for a job or grant
application), I can provide you a draft letter to give you a general idea
and save your precious time. If you decide to support my case, I will send
you the draft letter together with other information that you might need.
During my Ph.D. study at Dr. XXX’s lab, I have gained expertise in the area
of XXX. My graduate work has resulted in 9 journal articles and 3 book
chapters, as well as several awards. Some of my works were published in PNAS
, JBC, Developmental Biology and BMC genomics. Currently, my research work
at XXX University is mainly focused on the role of XXX.
I have attached my CV for your review. I would very much appreciate your
