Did you mean the fixed interest rate + inflation rate together = 0.74%?
I somehow feel that you didn't calculate it correctly or didn't express your
meaning correctly.
If you buy ibond on May 31, 2011 and sell it on May 1, 2012, the interest
for this period should be at least 2.51% APY. This is about the same rate
for a 5 years CD but it's a 11 month CD.
I remember during the time when gas price was over $4 in 2008, the ibond
interest rate(fixed+inflation) was about 6.5% for 6 months. I knew it
because that was how much I got paid.
I am not suggesting everyone to buy ibond but ibond is a tool, we all should
learn how to use every type of tools if possible. |

But based on your post, I found that I may know something that you dont
already know. My money is in ibond now, so I went a bit deeper to find
the
rate before the rate is posted on treasury site.
iBond's inflation is mainly based on Labor Dept's March and Sept number.
It's April now, if one cares about ibond so much, one would look into
Labor
Dept's March numbers and then calculate the rate before the rate can be
found/ displayed on treasurydirect.gov. This is how I know the May 31,
2011
- May 1, 2012 ibond rate in the worst case, should be at least 2.51%
APY.
For the part where I said 6.5% rate for 6 months, what you said in the

posts are right. But I meant that during the 6 months, the rate is 6.5%.

months, but this is not hard to assume the second 6 months rate to be 0.
take the number / 2 is the WORST CASE and it is 2.51% APY.
I dont need to be God to know the WORST CASE. But God would know the rate
for the second 6 months.

worst case 0% next six month is not bad, better than 1 year CD.

months,you will get
(1+.046/12)^6-1=2.3%
assuming you can get a similar deal right away, and use your momey
effectively in the same manner for the whole year, the apy is 1.023^12/11-1=
2.507%
you have to time your deposit, and make sure it was and it will be
reinvested without any gap, which i think is almost impossible.so the real
apr is probably still gonna be 2.3% without knowing the rate in the second
half
of the year.

我想赶这贴里说的五月底之前的这个, 就去local bank里买的, 所有的大银行都可以,
填一个Form 5374就可以了.
