Senior System Engineer - China
TripAdvisor, the world’s largest and most trusted travel media site, is
seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our APAC-China team. As a Senior
Systems Engineer, you’ll be a key member of the Site Operations team whose
primary responsibilities include day‐to‐day site operations, performance
tuning, capacity planning, and site scalability for TripAdvisor's China
website - DaoDao.com.
The qualified individual will work at the center of a world-class
engineering team to help improve how we develop a high performance,
massively scalable and successful website. Help design and implement the
systems and processes that will allow our development team to scale as we
double the team in the coming year. We are looking for engineers who can
see the big picture, are passionate about continuous integration, and love
creating a world-class development environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in build engineering/configuration management in an
agile, commercial Internet platform environment.
- Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English
- Expert knowledge of Linux
- Expert knowledge of Web Server technologies including Apache, Tomcat, and
similar application servers
- Experience tuning, optimizing, and scaling large web sites
- Expert knowledge of version control systems such as Subversion, Git or
similar systems
- Advanced knowledge of network communications protocols and network
engineering concepts and troubleshooting commands and tools
- Proficient with virtualization technologies such as XEN and VMWare ESX
Server
- Proficient in one or more scripting languages – Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.,
- Experience with Cacti, Puppet, and Nagios
- Experience with databases managing Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server a plus

Senior Software Engineer, Asia Pacific (APAC) - China
The Senior Software Engineer, APAC- China will be a core member of the
engineering team for DaoDao.com, TripAdvisor's site in China. You will be
tasked with implementing solutions to the challenging problems of developing
a site for the Chinese travel market. Your responsibilities will involve
coordinating with the local DaoDao.com and TripAdvisor engineering teams to
build custom travel products for the DaoDao.com traveler.
Requirements:
• Fluency in Chinese(Mandarin) and English
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent (MS a plus)
• 6+ years of software development experience.
• Experience in leading small and medium sizes engineering teams.
• Must have working knowledge of the following:
- Design and code high-volume software primarily using Java.
- In-depth and hands on knowledge of SQL
- Strong working knowledge of Unix, Apache, Tomcat a plus
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS/XML/JavaScript a plus
- Knowledge of i18n best practices (experience with Localization a plus).
• Enthusiasm for solving difficult problems.
• Passion for and experience developing great web products end-to-
end.
• Organized, self-motivated and detail oriented Strong analytical
and problem-solving skills
