Position 1 Data Warehouse Engineer
About the Role:
Data is core to our business and future success. Our Data team is looking
for a Data Warehouse Engineer to play a pivotal role in managing and
distributing data. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of
engineers, product managers and business intelligence analysts on a wide
range of problems.
This role will force you to grok new data sets and their life cycles. You
must own the performance, stability, and integrity of the data. We have
financial, user, web traffic, click stream, marketing, and product data
projects ripe for the picking.
The ideal candidate is intimately familiar with all aspects of the data:
tracking, warehousing, reporting, analysis, quality assurance and
performance optimization. They will have software development and scripting
experience. They will also be passionate about documentation and educating
others.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with system owners, and BI analysts across the company.
- Take Initiative in leading projects and collaborating with others on
requirements and product deliverables.
- Architect data marts for reporting and processing purposes.
- Analyze data anomalies and perform root cause analysis.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain database performance.
- Implement automated data quality checks and monitoring.
- Educate BI and engineering teams on data domain knowledge and best
practices for querying data sets.
Requirements
- Significant experience with modern RDBMS (e.g. MySQL, Vertica, Oracle,
Microsoft SQL Server)
- Significant experience optimizing database performance and queries
- Significant experience with data modeling for warehouse and transactional
database systems
- Experience working with large data sets and building systems that process
large volumes of data
- Experience with reporting and business intelligence implementations
- Software engineering skills with experience in Python preferred
- Experience in BI reporting software is a plus (e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy
, SAS)
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly develop solutions to complex problems that
involve both elegant data design and deep analytical thinking
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (preferred), Information Systems,
or relevant industry experience
Position 2 Software Engineer - Data
About the Role:
Data and analysis is core to our business and future success. We are is
looking for software engineers to play a pivotal role in our data team. You
will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, product
managers, and business intelligence analysts to create solutions that enable
a multi-billion dollar platform.
In this role, you will create data centric applications that power our core
business. We operate a lean and fast paced environment by giving engineers
the autonomy to make decisions quickly. You will be working on both
individual and collaborative projects with other data engineers to build
applications. These applications will perform complex data analysis in
domains like A/B testing of web/mobile, business financials and customer
segmentation.
The ideal candidate is a coder with a passion for data. He or she will have
an excellent grasp of data manipulation best practices and will be able to
implement applications at the enterprise scale. He or she will have designed
and implemented large scale data applications (terabytes and petabytes)
with all the software "ilities". He or she will also have strong experience
with object-oriented programming, domain-driven design, the software
development lifecycle and service oriented architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement applications and APIs for complex data analysis over
large data sets
- Create and enhance data frameworks to manage data flows within the company
at high scale
- Participation in an agile SDLC: standup, grooming, planning, code review,
etc.
- Take initiative in leading projects and collaborating with others
- Constantly evaluate new technologies and provide education when necessary
Requirements
- 5+ years software development experience with programming skills in Python
and/or Java preferred
- Broad and deep knowledge of Big Data, data warehousing, and advanced data
processing techniques
- Strong in software design patterns and algorithms
- Experience building data API's in a SOA environment
- Experience using technologies for distributed processing over large data
sets (Hadoop, EMR, etc.)
- Experience with data modeling and reporting (ROLAP, MOLAP, etc)
- Experience with columnar databases (Vertica, Redshift, Cassandra, etc.) is
a plus
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Experience with reporting and business intelligence implementations
- Experience in BI reporting software is a plus (Tableau, MicroStrategy, SAS
etc…)
- Must demonstrate the ability to rapidly develop solutions to complex
problems that involve both elegant data design and deep analytical thinking
