Donna Brazile says CNN ripped her “a new one” and didn't allow her to
defend herself against allegations she provided the Clinton campaign with
debate questions in advance of two contests.
“I wish CNN had given me some other things, like the ability to defend
myself rather than ripping me a new one,” the interim chairwoman of the
Democratic National Committee said at an event at Hollins University in
Virginia on Monday, according to the Roanoke Times.
“CNN never gave me a question,” added Brazile, who served as a CNN
contributor before taking the interim position at the DNC.
The allegations against Brazile surfaced after stolen emails from Clinton
campaign chief John Podesta dumped by WikiLeaks showed senior Clinton
campaign officials receiving tips about debate questions from Brazile.
The longtime Democrat passed along information about questions before a
debate between Clinton and Bernie Sanders on March 6, and before a Town Hall
event on March 13 of this year. Both events were either sponsored or co-
sponsored by CNN.
CNN has denied that it gave Brazil access to any debate questions.
“CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee
list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate
,” a CNN spokeswoman said in October.
But the incident appeared to embarrass the network. CNN President Jeff
Zucker described Brazile’s interactions with the Clinton campaign, as
reflected in the Wikileaks emails, as “unethical” and “disgusting”
during an editorial meeting, according to a Nov. 1 story in the Huffington
Post.
Brazile tendered her resignation to CNN on October 14. The network announced
the resignation publicly on October 31. |
