your fault.
$15000 does not sound too outrageous if the landlord need to replace the
floor of the whole room (you can't ask him to only replace one corner of the
room, that does not make sense). Even if it is your fault, you should only
be liable for the difference between the whole repair cost and any upgrade
value landlord receive (i.e., you destroyed 5-year old floor, and landlord
gets to enjoy brand new floor after the repair, he can't ask you for the
whole amount).
your option:
(1) talk to landlord, tell him you don't have much money, try to settle with
him (he should have and probably has insurance to cover most of the damage).
(2) don't admit fault, let him sue you, fight in court.
