STEM is being liberalized into LIBERAL ARTS, producing a SH*TLOAD of
advanced degree holders in rapid sucession while generating no impact on
industry.
Who cares about STEM PhDs these days, except the PIs to get more funding to
keep the show?

careers in consulting, IB, IP, etc.

Seriously, the IP legal market is slowly sinking. Clients are cutting
budgets, firms are driving hard at PPP, leaving the grinders to bear the
brunt. Classic theme of race to the bottom. Before long, we will see a SH*
TLOAD of joint degree holders looking for alternative careers outside STEM
and IP.

of test takers and applicants are going down, each school is becoming more
selective, some even announced enrollment cuts.
These days, it is a lot harder to get a firm job, even for law students with
science or engineering undergraduate degrees, including EE.
This correlates with the reality that clients are cutting budgets, firms are
competing furiously by underbidding each other.
Patent law practice in my area took off in the mid to late 90s with the
Internet bubble. Now, after Bilski and most recently Prometheus, (perhaps
Ultramercial as well), the pendulum has reversed, correlating with poor
quality and blatant ambitions of the purported inventions. After all, patent
law itself does not create value for the market.
At the same time, the IP practice field is getting more and more crowded.
The number of Chinese, or by extension, Chinese-Americans, or Asian-
Americans, etc., students/associates in IP has increased dramatically. Just
take a look at major law firms with an IP practice. BTW, the number of
white Amercians taking on patent law has also increased dramatically.
A path less travelled would be an interesting option or likely a successful
path in financial terms. A path travelled by a crowd amounts to nothing
more than a fad. It can fade away, into a traffic jam.
