The Medicus Firm Physician Survey: Health Reform May Lead to Significant
Reduction in Physician Workforce
What if nearly half of all physicians in America stopped practicing medicine
? While a sudden loss of half of the nations physicians seems unlikely, a
very dramatic decrease in the physician workforce could become a reality as
an unexpected side effect of health reform.

priority, a historic restructuring of the nation's health care system that
has eluded his predecessors for more than a century.
The 219-212 House vote, coming after a tumultuous day of protests and
rancorous debate, paves the way for Obama to sign the major portion of his
10-year, $940 billion plan early this week. The House was to vote later
Sunday on a package of changes and send it to the Senate for final passage.

That bit of brightness comes from a survey by The Medicus Firm, the results
of which were posted by The New England Journal of Medicine. Medicus
interviewed more than a thousand American physicians, and 55 percent of them
believe the quality of medical care in America will decline |
