This is very good. I'm interested in how she can be so confident in her
English skill. So far i havn't seen any other post more useful in terms of
direct impact to your most important step in getting into residency - your
very first impression at the interview.
for me personally, I scored a prematch offer after the first interviewer in
my first interview. Mostly because of luck of course, but one thing i do
remember is that the old Chair was very impressed with my English. After my
opening statement, he looked at my resume again and then said "i'd have
thought you grew up here in the US"... Not meant to brag, it take a few
years of persistent practice and accumulation. I want to see if she has
anything creative - i'm still striving to improve.

That is a common pitfall. OPEN YOUR MOUTH NOW. make mistakes when it doesn't
matter. don't wait till you are 'good enough'.
and not just pronunciation. It's mostly how you communicate - First
understand what people are saying, and respond appropriately, then you can
initiate the conversation and dissection other peoples response. Can you be
the one that direct a group's activity in English and make it lively? If you
can, you pass the first measure stick.

Hope Lexian can come here often.
I know you are an attending, also a BZ somewhere, should be busy, but
sometimes, only one word can benefit folks a lot.
Newbie has her own business, that English corner, not sure how is going
there. She may feel happy to help ppl English here, I guess.

You are absolutely right. The very big problem of interview for CMGs is
English, the second is "When was the last time you take care of your patients
", which one PD told me after an interview. Bad English makes Americans
concern. My suggestions for Dr Newbie are (if I may, because I am a member
of her club):
1. I think we should open our club for anybody.
2. About our club’s web page, can we delete all the “通知”, making the
page look clear. Also we can have a “提示”schedule like:
Monday== 10 medical words with pronunciation audio, so members can learn it
Tuesday== one short article from NYtimes with a short explanation on grammar
Wednesday== one short article from NEJM
Thursday=== we can put…..
Friday===Any grammar mistakes that you found in MEDI this week you’re your
corrections, just don’t mention the original post.
Saturday== one song from youtube with lyrics.
Sunday== 2 minutes of an audio clip from a famous novel with the script.

See, I said I'm still striving to improve... Not like I sucked, but you suck
more, so who are u here to disagree with me, blah blah. Hehe. Honestly, I
don't think it'll ever be mistake free for me in my life time. But that
doesn't prevent me from using it, right?

The following are the mistakes that I found. I don't think Dr.Lexian will
feel insulted if somebody corrected his English, other wise, his English won
't be this good. By the way, I am still having problems with plural after
taking English composition I and II,even though I pay more attention to this
now.
I admire Dr.Newbie's English. The reason I think Dr, Newbie's English is far
better than most Chinese, is because I showed what she wrote in English to
my Writing tutor, whose comments were: (1) She can use fewer words to
express the same meaning, which others would need to use a lot more words; (
2) she can make something boring sound alive with authentic and beautiful
American English.
This is very good. I'm interested in how she can be so confident in her
English skill(s). So far i havn't seen any other post more useful in terms
of
direct impact to your most important step in getting into residency - your

不会吧, “looking down with a smile”... am i dead already? hehe
So i take it that u r Newbie. i actually have never read any of your posts
here before - all wiped out? Some here spoke very highly of your language
skill and i can kind of see the reason. However, i do have a little
suggestion for you.
The resident time for me was many years ago, i took the prematch and started
2weeks after my interview. By the time March day came around that year, i
was already working like a dog in the hospital. From time to time i still
miss the excitement and thrill of 金榜提名时。Please put your anger and
bitterness aside for a while and just enjoy the moment. It's a joyful day
for many of CMGs after years of tear and sweat. and you should respect that.
After all, skill serves no use if you don't have a purpose, am i right?

like this is lunatic, how could this happen? As years gone by, I realized
that it does happen. What you wear is right in the face of others when you
