rechecked it on June 14th, it raising to 1700. she had a CT just done, no
result yet. She never had hep B, or any liver problem before. no symptom.
She had breast cancer in 1998, had surgery and is in remission. otherwise
healthy. Doctor in China just want her to do CT, did not give a possible
explanation. I am afraid of liver cancer, but it raised so fast, felt like
a 炎症反应. can anyone give me some insight, please.
CT scan just came back, multiple bright spots in liver. liver is smooth, no
swallen, other functions are normal. gallbladder stone. | f*****y 发帖数: 464 | 2 还是做个全身的检查吧。有时候AFP升高不一定是肝脏原发的。 | s*********e 发帖数: 119 | 3 I just took a test. Here is the information about AFP from book. But I
suggest your mother double check her AFP from another hospital in case false
positive.
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a serum glycoprotein synthesized by the fetal
yolk sac and liver. The highest concentrations are found during embryonic
life and decline after birth to a low base level at 12 months, and are only
found in trace amounts by age 2. AFP is detected in maternal serum and used
to detect fetal neural tube disorders, GI tract defects, spina bifida, and
fetal distress. It is a marker for hepatocellular and germ cell carcinoma of
the testes and ovaries. It is also found in pancreatic, gastric, and
colonic carcinomas. It is the best tumor marker for managing patients with
hepatocellular carcinoma and is the most specific biochemical test for
primary carcinoma of the liver. It is also found in nonmalignant hepatic
disorders, such as viral hepatitis. It can also be elevated in ataxia
telangiectasia and tyrosinemia. The NIH panel has recommended it be used as
a screening test in patients in whom liver cancer, cirrhosis, or chronic
active hepatitis is suspect. It is also used in monitoring therapeutic
response and can serve as a prognostic indicator, with higher levels being
associated with larger tumor mass and poor prognosis. |
