have been done? What stage of rectal cancer does she have?
First of all, if the pain is severe and she cannot pass gas, she needs to go
to ER right away to rule out bowel obstruction. Do not use any laxatives
unless you have ruled out bowel obstruction first.
I don't like narcotics for pain relieve. For rectal pain, try warm water
sitz bath with Epsom salt. And I also find the Prep H suppositories
soothing. For colon or gas pain, google the Pravanmuktasana yoga pose, and
avoid green beans & broccoli type of food. Ask someone to buy some
digestive enzymes and probiotics from US for her. Those help a lot to
improve digestive functions.
She needs to drink lots and lots of water, stay as active as possible (I
know it's hard, but she needs to do pelvic floor exercises - she can do it
in bed). On my bad days, I drink smoothies (no milk, just veggie & fruits
blend) and nothing starchy or sugary by mouth. Then, I took Ativan or
Valium and try to take a nap under the sun in my backyard to boost my
vitamin D. And don't eat blueberries or anything high in antioxidant esp if
she's in chemo therapy.
I know many stage 4 colorectal cancer survivors. People joke that nowadays
doctors treat it like a chronic disease such as diabetes. So keep her
spirit up. I will pray for her! | z*****n
