j****i 发帖数: 496 | 4 First of all, you should see a GI to rule out more serious causes of
persistant constipation. The basic workup should at least include
colonoscopy to check for colon polyps, sitz mark to check for colon transit
time, and possibly defecography and/or anorectal manometry to check for
pelvic muscle dysfunctions. If any abnormalities are found, you need to get
them treated.
For idiopathic chronic constipation, you can safely take MiraLax for life.
It's absolutely safe as nothing is absorbed or metabolized. There's no side
effect and no dependency issues. I've had severe chronic constipation too.
I've tried many different regimes - fiber supps generally are very gassy,
I prefer to take ground flaxseed 2tbsp per day with minimumm of 64-80oz
daily fluid. Buy the ones with Omega-3 which has added anti-inflammatory
benefits. I also add 1-2 scoops of MiraLax if flaxseed is not enough.
Probiotics helps too. I walk 3-4 miles daily (just moderate exercise as
intensive exercise can increase the inflammation and shutting down the GI
even more).
Female hormonal disorders can cause constipation too if your symptoms are
cyclic. So you might want to discuss with your GYN to get your hormone
levels checked. Also, if you're taking any medications, check with your
doctor about known side effects.
