were killed when they tumbled off the battlement and into a moat.
Le Figaro newspaper reported that the nude bodies of a man and a woman, both
about 30 years old, were found in the moat that surrounds the Vauban fort
in the Chausey archipelago in northwestern France, according to the Daily
Mirror. The man's body was found in a dried section of the moat; the woman's
in shallow water.
The drop from the battlement, where the couple's clothing and other
possessions were found, is 40 feet.
Le Figaro, quoting a police source, reported Friday that the death was
accidental.
The fort was built by Napolean III in 1866 to defend against British
