Queen Elizabeth II met Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness at
Hillsborough Castle in Belfast as part of a two-day royal visit to the
province.
When Mr McGuinness asked the monarch how she was she replied "I'm still
alive anyway."
In a short video showing the beginning of a 20 minute-audience between the
two, the Queen noted that she has been "quite busy," adding "there's been
quite a lot going on."
The Deputy First Minister agreed that "there are a lot of things going on at
the moment."
After a moment of silence the Queen added "I've had two birthdays, so we've
been quite busy."
The monarch is in Northern Ireland for a two-day visit in her first round of
public engagements since the UK voted to leave the European Union.
In Northern Ireland, 56% of voters backed Remain in the referendum. The
outcome has prompted Sinn Fein to call for a border poll on Irish unity - a
demand the UK Government has rejected.

The Queen is thought to be a Brexiteer, having told dinner guests to giver
her 'three good reasons' why Britiain should stay part of the EU, but it
appears even her Majesty has been roiled by the past few days of national
political drama in the UK.
During a meeting with Northern Ireland's First Minister Martin McGuinness,
McGuinness inquired how she was doing, to which the Queen replied, "Well, I'
m still alive anyway," flashing him a smile, which may or may not have
referred to the fact that Mr McGuinness has proudly admitted that he spent
his early years as a senior member of the IRA.
"There has been quite a lot going on," said the Queen, in the understatement
of the year, but before the conversation could get too political, or
distracted by the potential imminent break-up of the U.K., she deftly
pretended she was talking about mere domestic and family life, adding, "I've
had two birthdays so I've been quite busy." |
