We could have absorbed a border tax if it weren't for the bullshit inflation
of the Obama Era. After eight years of Obama nearly everything costs double
what it did in 2008. A 10% border tax at FOB cost will result in 40% higher
prices at retail for imported products. It will decimate the retail
landscape.
I for one think that gross profit at Walmart and the rest of big box retail
are overly excessive. 60-80 points on a product is insane and never should
have happened. A major retailer pays $3-4 for a $10 retail product. There is
more than enough margin for the major retailer to absorb the border tax
without raising prices, but the Wall Street mafia won't see it that way.
The border tax will destroy big box retail because consumers will not be
able to nor want to pay double the current price for something manufactured
for a couple bucks in China and the retailers will not take less margin on
anything.
You could see items that cost $2 coming into the USA selling for $40 retail.
In some cases of extreme greed this already happens. Like the As Seen on
Jew TV products that must be manufactured for less than $1 and sell for $19.
99. After the border tax this will become the norm.
Like it or not the economy went on life support in 2000 and the plug was
pulled in 2008. There is no going back without a complete painful reset.
Everything connected to the stock market must die and thousands of local
economies must rise from the ashes. |
