Having the protestors waving USA flags, getting away with throwing fire
bombs at police, proposing the HK govt be overthrown and then HK taken from
China (again) and put under the western powers etc.. That is not going to
fly.
Hong Kong in reality has not matched the image for many years. Mostly
because China's mainland has progressed so far, has become a manufacturing
giant, has developed it's own banking systems and the mainland is very
proficient in international business without HK. 25% of HK live below the
poverty line, 50% live in govt subsidized housing, HK is not a manufacturing
powerhouse which limits the less educated, the elderly in HK did not have
enough children to now support them and the one or two children they did
have are struggling themselves - thus the elderly rely on govt welfare and
line up for free food lines. |
