Pham Thi Tra My, 26, sent her mother heartbreaking messages telling her she
was "dying because she couldn't breathe" inside the lorry's container unit
in the moments before her death.
Her family have now said she paid people smugglers 拢30,000 to travel to the
UK via China "in search of a better life".
Nguyen Thi Phong and Pham Van Thin told CNN it was "very painful" to receive
the text and that their daughter must have known she was going to die when
she sent it.
Her father Pham said: "I've lost both my loved one and my money. The
smugglers said that this was a ... safe route, that people would go by
airplane, car ... if I had known she would go by this route, I would not
have let her go."
He and his partner, who make around $400 a month between them, scraped
together the money to pay for their daughter to travel to the UK.
Ms Pham sent a last desperate text message to her mother saying she could
not breathe and was about to die, saying: 鈥淚鈥檓 sorry Mum. My journey
abroad hasn鈥檛 succeeded.鈥br />

A human rights worker in Vietnam in contact with Ms Pham's family revealed
she made the perilous journey because they were in debt and she was
desperately trying to help them.
"She had just returned from Japan where she was working to try and pay off
the debt. And that was not enough and so she looked for a better future,"
she told the BBC.
Asking to remain anonymous, the human rights worker said: "For this girl it
is very sad that she took the risk because she was dealing with debt that
was created by another man in the family.
"I also learnt that the service that she was using was called 'very
important service' and so it is like a business class ticket on the lorry
and with that she had to pay double or three times the price of the cheap
ticket."
Another Vietnamese family have told how they fear their son was also among
the dead.
Nguyen Dinh Gia told AFP he received a call from his son two weeks ago
saying he was planning to travel to Britain where he hoped to work in a nail
salon.
Nguyen Dinh Luong, 20, who had been living in France said the journey into
the UK via Paris would cost him 拢11,000 pounds.
But Mr Gia received a call several days ago from a Vietnamese man breaking
the news of the tragedy and saying "Please have some sympathy, something
unexpected happened."
Mr Gia said: "I fell to the ground when I heard that. It seemed that he was
in the truck with the accident, all of them dead."
He added: "He often called home but I haven't been able to reach him since
the last time we talked last week. I told him that he could go to anywhere
he wants as long as it's safe. He shouldn't worry about money, I'll take
care of it."
Mr Gia explained that his son, who had a distinctive tattoo of praying hands
on a cross on his right shoulder, left Vietnam to work in Russia in 2017
and had since passed through Ukraine, Germany and France.
Also among the missing feared dead in the lorry is thought to be Hoang Thi
Hong Nhung, from Phu Xuan Village, near Do Thanh, in Yen Thanh district.
Her sister, Tuan Luc, wrote on a Facebook page asking for information on her
whereabouts, stating: "Hope everyone can share this to help finding my
younger sister as soon as possible. Hope the best will come to her. Hope
that it's not that fatal journey."
Another migrant feared to have died in the lorry, Nguyen Dinh Tu, asked his
wife Hoang Thi Thuong to help him raise 拢11,000 to cover the cost of an
illicit trip from Germany, where he had lost his job, to the UK.
Ms Thuong told Reuters: "I lost contact with him on October 21. I have a big
debt to pay, no hope, and no energy to do anything".
Relatives in the UK had told Tu's father that he was inside the truck and
they had been planning to pick him up.

Another migrant thought to have died is a woman named as Ngoc, aged 19, from
Vinh, in Nghe An province, whose family have appealed on a Vietnamese
Facebook community group for help.
Tr岷 H霉ng, from London, wrote on it: "I have a neighbour on Tuesday went
from Belgium, but her family has lost contact with her. They are very
worried about her and looking to hear of her."
There were also fears for an unnamed 15-year-old feared by relatives to have
been in the container. His family say he flew from Hanoi to Russia on
August 26 and then on to France on October 10, but has not been heard from
since.
A 37-year-old called B霉i V膬n Th岷痭g was also reported by his family to be
missing.
Mr B霉i鈥檚 brother-in-law said: 鈥淗e could be one of the unlucky 39 people
dying in the container, as there are three lorries and two escaped. Our
whole family are very worried.鈥br />
Dozens of distraught relatives have been in contact with Vietnamese
community groups in Britain asking for information about their missing loved
ones.
The London-based Vietnamese online newspaper, VietHome, has been sent
photographs of nearly 20 people, aged 15-45, who are missing and feared to
be among the 39 dead found in the back of the lorry left in Grays on
Wednesday.
It is thought the migrants paid as much as 拢30,000 to people smugglers to
book a place on the 6,000 mile journey to Britain.
Many of them will have hoped to find work here to send money home and pay
off family debts.
VietHome said it had passed the photographs it received to Essex Police to
help the process of identifying the dead currently taking place.
It stated: 鈥淲hat VietHome wants to do is help families find missing people
or identify the victims accurately.鈥br />
The website said it had been inundated with calls and messages from anxious
relatives in Vietnam seeking news of their loved ones.

There are growing fears the majority of the 39 who died inside the lorry
came from the same poverty stricken rice-growing community as Ms Pham.
Father Anthony Dang Huu Nam, a catholic priest in the remote town of Yen
Thanh, a two-hour drive from Ms Pham鈥檚 home in northern-central Vietnam鈥
檚 Nghe An province, said he was supporting family members of the victims.
鈥淭he whole district is covered in sorrow,鈥he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 still
collecting contact details for all the victim鈥檚 families, and will hold a
ceremony to pray for them tonight. This is a catastrophe for our community.

As he spoke, prayers for the dead rang out over loudspeakers throughout the
rain-soaked town.
Father Nam said families told him they knew relatives were travelling to the
UK but had been unable to contact their loved ones.
Speaking about Ms Pham鈥檚 grief-stricken family, Father Nam said: 鈥淭hat
girl who said in her message that she couldn鈥檛 breathe in the truck? Her
parents can鈥檛 breathe here at home.鈥br />
Vietnam鈥檚 foreign ministry said it had instructed its London embassy to
assist British police with the identification of victims.
Nghe An is one of Vietnam鈥檚 poorest provinces and home to many victims of
human trafficking who end up in Europe, according to a March report by the
Pacific Links Foundation, a U.S.-based anti-trafficking organisation.
