BR 发帖数: 4151 | 1 I have just posted a pre-print of a review written by @K_G_Andersen, @
edwardcholmes, Ian Lipkin & Bob Garry about some particular features in the
#SARSCov2 spike protein and what they tell us about the evolution and
emergence of #covid19 in humans.
We explicitly consider (and show the evidence against) 'non-natural'
hypotheses for the origin.
Key points are that it _is_ well suited to human infection but not in the
way someone would have predicted using current computational models.
It is essentially a 'good-enough' solution - a classic sign of natural
selection (see, for example, that the optical nerves in our eye go across
the front of the retina and through a hole in it).
It has features that are not found in any known bat virus (some, but not all
are found in a related pangolin virus). It probably did originate in bats
years ago but has probably evolved in another host since.
