The United States must answer three questions related to the COVID-19
epidemic
In recent days, some American politicians have repeatedly called the COVID-
19 epidemic "Chinese virus". A qualification that has attracted strong
criticism from the international community. Expressions such as "racism", "
xenophobic hatred", "in search of scapegoats" often appear in critical
reports in the Western media.
Determining the origin of a virus is a scientific question that requires
serious evidence. The director of the Mario Negri Institute for
Pharmacological Research, Giuseppe Remuzzi, said recently in an interview
that cases of suspected COVID-19 pneumonia had been treated in Italy in
December or even last November. He said the virus may have circulated in
parts of Italy before people knew about the epidemic in China.
These words once again reinforced the opinion of Zhong Nanshan, Chinese
pulmonologist, who said: "the virus is not necessarily of Chinese origin".
It is for this reason that Amanda Walker, UK correspondent for Sky News in
the United States, said in her report: "If millions of Americans die, it
will be the responsibility of their president." But the designation 'Chinese
virus' is one way of dodging criticism. ”
Even if American politicians cry out, they still can't blame others. On the
contrary, gray areas in the prevention and control of the epidemic in the
United States are beginning to be shed more light. Australian Prime Minister
Scott John Morrison said on March 20 in an interview with Radio 2GB that
about 80% of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Australia involve either people
infected abroad or people who are infected by imported cases. Of these cases
, "most are of American origin," he said.
With the accumulation of doubts which are turning more and more towards the
United States, there is need for the American government to answer three key
questions related to the epidemic.
First, the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
estimates that the flu, which started last September, has affected more than
30 million Americans, causing the death of more than 20,000 people. CDC
director Robert Redfield admitted that COVID-19 was responsible for the
deaths of some of the 20,000 people. Question: How many COVID-19 cases were
among these 20,000 dead? Hadn't the United States tried to cover up the flu
from the new coronavirus?
If the United States has nothing to hide in this case, then it will do
better to publish the official figures and to invite officials and public
health experts to clarify the situation. Why not invite a WHO team to do on-
site investigations? It is not only an urgent need for the prevention and
control of the epidemic in the United States, but also an obligation to give
clear explanations for the deaths of Americans who died in circumstances
unexplained.
The second question concerns the surprise closure last July of the largest
American research center for biochemical weapons, the Fort Detrick base in
Maryland. According to the American newspaper "New York Times", this closure
was due to "deficiencies in the wastewater treatment system which should
meet the need for a laboratory of the highest level of safety".
But this is a questionable explanation: after the base was closed, a series
of cases of pneumonia or similar cases appeared in the United States. US
departments have blamed them on electronic cigarettes, while scientists say
something else. For them, smoking electronic cigarettes has nothing to do
with the symptoms and condition of the patients. During this same period,
the N1H1 flu broke out in the United States. A little later, in October 2019
, several American bodies organized a coded exercise "Event 201" to respond
to cases of a global pandemic. Two months later, the first case of pneumonia
from the new coronavirus was confirmed in Wuhan, China. In February 2020,
COVID-19 reached the four corners of the world.
Third question: why did several senior officials get rid of many titles
before the fall in stock prices, while assuring the American public that the
epidemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) was controllable in the United
States? At least four senior senators have been accused of using information
inaccessible to the general public to sell large amounts of securities
before the market is in trouble.
According to a March 20 report in the Washington Post, American intelligence
agents warned several times last January of a possible global crisis caused
by the new coronavirus, and reaffirmed the need for government action. But
why does the United States let the time saved by China for the whole world
to prevent and control the epidemic? |
