We want to make you aware that the $230 monthly pre-tax transit limit that
you now enjoy is scheduled to expire at the end of 2010 if Congress does not
act to extend it. If the limit is not extended, it will revert to the
previous limit of $120 a month and any election amount over $120 will be
deducted from your pay on an after-tax basis.
Currently, WageWorks is working with industry groups and Congress to make
the $230 pre-tax transit limit permanent. While we are optimistic, we want
you to be prepared in the event Congress does not act to extend or make the
increased limit permanent. If Congress does not extend the limit, you may
want to reconsider the amount you contribute to your account.
We will send you an update in November on the status of the 2011 transit
limit. If the limit is not extended or made permanent, please remember to
log into your account at www.wageworks.com and review and/or adjust your
order before the December deadline for the January 2011 commute month.
While your WageWorks account will always accommodate the full cost of your
commute, you will only receive the tax credit and savings for the portion
deducted pre-tax from your pay.
If you agree that the transit limit should be extended or made permanent,
please go to our website at www.preservethelimit.com today and use the email
application to send your Congressperson and/or Senator an email.
Also, please keep an eye out for the November update confirming the final
status of the limit and extension.
