Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Swedish Visiting Nurse
Services Hospice Care Program. Our volunteers are highly valued members of
our team providing support to people with life limiting illness and their
families throughout King County. Volunteers are part of the “heart” of
hospice care as their compassion and commitment can often bring quality of
life to patients as well as relief and reassurance to families. We ask our
volunteers to make a minimum commitment of one year. Once assigned to a
hospice patient we require our volunteers to provide weekly visits that are
one to four hours per visit.
Hospice care is for those with a life limiting disease. It allows people
who choose to no longer pursue curative treatment to live their remaining
time in comfort and dignity in their own home, a home of a family member or
friend, in an adult family home, assisted living facility or nursing home.
The hospice team provides holistic care for both the patient and family by
addressing their physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs. As a
valued and important part of the team the volunteer provides practical help,
rest and comfort for the patient and families.
After submitting an application and admission to the program all prospective
volunteers must take home and view the Hospice and Palliative Care
Volunteer Home Study DVD Program and complete the provided tests. Within
seven days of completion of the DVD program all prospective volunteers will
meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to review the Hospice Care Volunteer
Manual along with other pertinent information within the hospice program.
This entire training process is held to give the basics of volunteering at
Swedish Visiting Nurse Services while providing the foundation of skills and
knowledge needed to help support hospice patient and families. In addition
, all prospective volunteers must submit to two TB tests (free of charge
through Swedish), verbally acknowledge that they have had or are immune to
the Chicken Pox and present documentation providing one of the following:
• Two live MMR vaccines or
• A blood test showing immunity or
• Physician’s signed statement citing previous illness with
measles, mumps or rubella.
If the above is not available Swedish will pay for a lab test for the
Chicken Pox and MMR and if needed the vaccine. These requirements are
mandatory to volunteer and proof must be submitted to the Volunteer
Coordinator before receiving your first assignment. Again, thank you for

PATIEN全是87-97 我的妈妈啊,高寿老人啊,沾点喜气:)
