Objectives:
This course is very foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly
focuses on fundamental principles, theory knowledge and diagnostics skills
of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This course is designed to introduce
Chinese medical theories and clinical uses, help users learn basic concepts
in Chinese diagnostics such as diagnosis, symptoms, patterns, illnesses,
pattern identifications, and illness identifications, and illness case
studies, to familiarize users with the fundamental theories in Chinese
diagnostics and principal contents, to make users understand the development
of Chinese diagnostics. The participants should:
1. Describe the traditional Chinese view of disease.
2. Identify and list the causes of disease in Traditional Chinese
Medicine.
3. Describe and explain the concept of Qi, the Yin Yang viewpoint, and
the Five Element Viewpoint and how they are applied in practice.
4. Explain the actions and functions of the parts of the body from a
Chinese medicine perspective.
5. Explain the normal and abnormal functions of the Organs from a Chinese
medicine point of view and how they differ from the Western point of view.
6. Explain the relations between the body and pathogenic factors - what
do we mean by "Wind" invasion.
7. Have an appreciation of pattern differentiation in Chinese medicine -
this is the basis of diagnosis and therefore treatment, whether acupuncture
or herbal medicine.

cardiovascular system, digestive system, urinary system, blood system, and
endocrine system; application of medical nursing procedures and integration
of knowledge of nursing science to provide effective care for patients. Upon
completion of this course, participant should:
1. Understand pathogenesis of common medical diseases and frequently-
occurring diseases as well as clinical syndromes of these diseases.
2. Understand key treatment points of common medical diseases, frequently
-occurring diseases.
3. Be able to observe, evaluate and analyze for different patients in
order to conclude diagnosis.
4. Be able to take corresponding treatments on basis of medical diagnose
