crashing in Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas, according to the Santa Clara
County Sheriff's office.
The man was paragliding off Monument Peak Trail when his equipment
malfunctioned, said Santa Clara County sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza.
Witnesses reported hearing a rippling noise and the seeing the man begin to
fall to the ground.
The man crashed into the hillside, about 80 feet down the slope and 900 feet
south of the trail, Cardoza said. Park rangers were able to reach him
within a few minutes and began CPR. He was declared dead on the scene.
The Santa Clara County coroner's office did not release his name pending
notification of his next of kin.
