1. You need to be fit. At or near sea level, with a 40 lbs pack, you need to
be able to gain at least 1750 ft in elevation per hour on a good, snow-free
trail, and at least 1000 ft on snow assuming the trail is already broken.
2. Reasonable experience in snow/glacier travel, including the use ice axe
and crampons. Crevasse rescue skills not required.
We will go on the first good weather weekend after 7/4 so the flexibility in
your schedule is also important. |

去年是这么搞定hood的，希望rainier也可以顺利。

This will be a 3-day climb of Rainier by Emmons Glacier. Starting from 7/3,
we will take the first weather window that overlaps a weekend day or holiday
. So Thursday/Friday/Saturday is a possible although Friday/Saturday/Sunday
or Saturday/Sunday/Monday is preferred if weather allows it.
A likely itinerary is: we meet at White River ranger station early morning
on day 1 and camp at Camp Curtis, move to Emmons Flat or a bit higher on day
2, summit and out on day 3. If weather is extremely good, we may summit on
day 2 and camp on summit.
It may sound unnecessary but I have to say it. I do not guarantee summitting
. If for any season my partner and I decide we need to turn around, we turn
around. If we decide any one of you cannot go higher due to poor fitness,
poor health, or behavior detrimental to the team, then you stay in the camp
on summit day. |
