LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) — A hiker who activated an emergency personal locator
beacon amid brutal weather conditions including 100 mph winds in a
mountainous area named after U.S. presidents was found dead on Monday.
The body of Kate Matrosova was found Monday afternoon between Mount Madison
and Mount Adams, part of a series of summits named after presidents and
other prominent Americans and called the Presidential Range, the state's
Fish and Game Department said.
"I guess if you are gonna hike in this type of weather you need to be in a
more sheltered area, not up on an open exposed ridgeline," Goss said. "There
's just no room for error in a place like that." |

此外，当晚正值风暴肆虐高峰，不仅狂风时速超过100哩，达到飓风程度，气温亦已降
至华氏零度以下近30度的低温，因此根本无法连夜出动搜寻。
不过，由州府官员和救难团体组成的一组志愿救难人员，仍在16日清晨冒着时速108哩
狂风和严寒低温的危险，至马特洛索瓦失踪的山区搜寻后，最后在号称「总统山脉」的
麦迪逊山与亚当斯山之间发现尸体。
救难人员指出，马特洛索瓦显然因长期暴露在极度低温下，而被冻死。戈斯指出：「如
果要这种极端恶劣天气登山，我认为必须寻找更能避风的区域，而非曝露在山嵴上，因
为在这种山区没有任何让人失误的空间。」
出生于希伯利亚的马特洛索瓦，是在法国BNP Paribas SA银行纽约分公司担任信贷交易
商。她的丈夫是摩根大通银行副总裁法尔胡迪(Charlie Farhoodi)。
据悉，法尔胡迪在15日清晨把马特洛索瓦载至山脚下，马特洛索瓦原本计画登上东北部
最高的华盛顿山，未料以悲剧收场。
